And you're 21. And?

Ohhhh, this IS odd. I like to think of myself as a living, breathing embodiment of Will Erixon, but this hits a little too close to home. I had a similar experience this summer. She was a sixteen year old with whom I worked. We were friends, but over time we were getting a little too friendly. One day she tried going past

And?
Yes, April and Will would make a good couple - but they aren't already, not to mention they're living in different comics.
Besides, my mum is 4 years younger than my dad. No big deal when they're both over 40, no, but she was 18 when they met, so...
Go for it, Will! She seems like a good match.

Yeah, definite thumbs up, here. My parents met when my mom was 13, and my dad 17. They've been happily married now for thirty years. Of course, my last two relationships were with 18-year-olds (myself at 21 and 22), and I'm willing to back up the theorem that age brings certain levels of maturity ... I just hope I don't find it also reducing the amount of fun someone is.

Blondlot, you and I should meet at some con, I'm sure, and have a "Will-off," or something. ^_~

--GB

"Oops! Besides, apparently the age of consent in NY (where this chapter is set) is 17, so she's legal.

Er, basing this last on www.ageofconsent.com so feel free to correct if wrong.

[Insert Wish's slow burn here.]
She's HITTING on Will! I don't care of she's of legal age or not! Somebody make her stop! Oooh.. I need a time travel ticket for New York of this past summer. Will canNOT get tied down to a random female! (Even if Rumy-chan did a great job designing her ^_^)
-Wish

NO she is hitting on him, she is to young...way to young. Hell I know that I am young, but she is to young and not good enough to be with Will. To bad that April lives in another comic, because they would be so perfect together. I mean you all saw them they were in...love.
I still believe that the girl is not good enough for Will, but whatever. Shanna and Will should date or Rumy and Will. I think they would be cute together.

I think its just a common feature of theatre. I was just thinking earlier how much this story reminds me of my friend Joel. The fifteen-year olds at the theater loved to flirt with him simply because he was "safe".

Looks like I was wrong. If Jackie is attending Billburg next year, she won't be a "summer fling", regardless of how things land up with Will. Summer flings end that summer, and you don't see them again.
As a pretty young freshman at Billburg who's into Fans stuff, Jackie will surely become a Club member. While it is cool to see so soon T's proclaimed plans to expand the SciFi Club already moving, it does blow a hole in my theory. Someone posted that T has an affinity for Ranma, so I'd suppose Will is going to wind up in the heart of a love polygon when he returns to campus. Only makes sense as the Rikk/Rumy/Alisin triangle is basically gone.
Also, an element I'd not considered before is how the FIB Faans will integrate with the non-FIB Faans. Will the core group have to keep a secret identity away from the new Club memebers, or at least try to?
Nullset out.
[This message has been edited by Nullset (edited 10-09-2001).]

Well, I'm the last person in the world with the right to judge couples with huge age differences, not that this one is really that huge, but the freshman-dating-a-senior thing is kinda scummy. There's even a sandwich named after it at my old college. (Random factoid. Irrelevant.)
But despite all that, for some reason I just don't _like_ her. Maybe she reminds me of someone I went to school with who also affected a fake British accent.

I have to chime in as well. I met my wife when she was 19 and I was 27; we've been together 9 years (and our first child is 10 months old). So yeah, it can work. Occassionally she does tease me about my taste in music...
--Tuscahoma

Okay. Will is 21. Jackie is 17. That's 4 years difference. Been there. Was fun while it lasted. Only problem was she wasn't ready for a solid relationship like I wanted, so we split up again pretty quick. Was fun though.
The problem, again? My GF's parents met when her mother was 16, her father 18 or 19 I think. They married two years later, and at the same time baptised their first child (my GF, as it happens). That was the day before her mother's 18th birthday. They've been together for 25 years now... What was the problem again?

One of the factors that affect this whole 'dating age' discussion is the fact that now primarily physical relationships are being viewed as normal by society at large. I'm not a prude by any means, but it's always seemed obvious to me that relationships are about relations; that is, your (non-physical) interaction with a person, your discussions, your personalities, and the varying aspects of both partners. Physical relationships certainly give one's hormones a workout, but they don't do anything for the mind, the id, ego, or superego. They don't do anything to assuage the innate loneliness we all carry within us. Humans are social animals
