Hi,
Maybe this has already been discussed here (I haven't been following this MB particularly closely the past few weeks) or on the CRFH MB...
But the strips of the past few days suddenly make sense to me!
I think.
Anyway, they seem to be set in two seperate worlds, one being "What if the cast of CRFH had included Rumy and Tim and Rikk instead of April and Dave and Mike" and the other being "What if the cast of FANS had included April and Dave and Mike instead of Rumy and Rikk and Tim".
This explains stuff like why Tim has a horn (he went on the Misery Journey) and why April and Will are dating (some untold story in the past of this alternate FANS universe).
Am I making sense?
Nicolas
Facinating, Nic.. a very good thought! If it's true, then we just need to figure out what Rikk's new Super Power is! (as Dave's stand in, he should have gone on the Misery Journey too!) Also, you can assume that Margaret and Alisin are switched, just like the others (left a pair out there, Nic!) So, according to this theory, we have:
Rikk=Dave
Tim=Mike
Rumy=April
Alisin=Margaret
Facinating. Faaaaaacinating.
-Wish
A wheel within a wheel within a wheel within a mighty wheel.
Tim=Mike
Rumy=April
Alisin=Margaret
Facinating. Faaaaaacinating.
-Wish
A wheel within a wheel within a wheel within a mighty wheel.

I agree with this theory. Except I don't think that Rikk has a power. Mostly because Dave and Mike still have their mutations in the other Comic and Tim is always horny.
Leave it to Shanna not to fall for this thing. She's the one who pulled them out of the fire with Thakk and it seems she's going to pull it off again if she doesn't get buried first.
I just wonder about the other group and whether any of them are going to come to.
------------------

Interesting. I wonder when the hallucinations started in relation to when Pinkerton put them in the Hotel Room and put the OctoMatrices on them. I could certainly see Alisin's current state (good girl Christian as being her version of Hell, she twitches there and here).
Wrong board to be asking this, but does anyone know where Blue Mushrooms come from (other than the CRFH universe). I don't think their origin has been explained there or on their Board.
Oh yes, nice to know that Acme exists in this universe and that Pinkerton is using them (I guess that answers where he got the trap and the juice-sprayer) for his equipment supplier. All the Fans/Roomies have to do is say "Meep! Meep!" and the Acme equipment will fail on him.
Hey, do you think Blue Mushrooms come from Acme?
--Tuscahoma

I think that for Rikk, Tim is acting as the "devil" on one shoulder, Alisin as the "angel" on the other, which partly explains their hallucinated costumes and characters. Hence Alisins' twitch when Rikk puts his arm around her. And Alisin is acting "in character", although the twitch may indicate that she (being the most drug-tolerant one present) is not reacting to the blue mushroom juice as Pinkerton hoped. After all, devilish behaviour is not far out for Tim, but angelic behaviour is a much bigger step for Alisin.
I'm not sure that Tim's horn indicates participation in a Misery journey. After all, Mike still has his tentacle in the Ragnarok world, and Dave seems to still have "X-power" eyes ("I can tunnel us out" in the "Buried Issues" strip). And neither Alisin nor Tim is acting much like their Roomie counterparts (Tim's not a mean selfish brat and Alisin's not short-tempered and violent).
I think the consensual hallucinations are much more involved than simple character-shuffling, and that everyone involved has taken on a new persona more or less distant from their own. Now Pinkerton is about to "Matrix" them together, and events must take another turn at right angles to reality .
Shanna seems to be nearest to coming round (side-effects from her interrogation in the Unconscious Collective?). Notice her twitch in the last panel of todays strip.
Muttley

This is one of those times when the speculation is almost as enjoyable for me as writing the actual story.
By now, of course, it should be clear that the Pinkerton motel scene is what's "real." Well, as real as a fictional webcomic GETS, at any rate.
Everybody noticed the settings on those little Matrix Octodroids, right...?

I understand why Alisin was sent to "Hell" - she IS the one who drugged Pinkerton, after all. Still, Shanna is the one who captured him AND it was Pinkerton's failure to memory-wipe Shanna that got him into trouble with Agent Jones. I'd think that she should be in hell, but all the octo-droids aside from Alisin's seem to be set to "Normal". Or am I reading it wrong?

Nope, you're right.
Shanna captured Pinky... Shanna tied him up and interrogated him... Shanna stood by and watched while Alisin emptied her personal pharmacy into him...
But when all's said and done, Shanna didn't do anything long-lasting to him. Alisin did.
By Pinkerton's logic (or what PASSES for logic with him), she is, no question, "the worst of the lot."

I just realized something. In the picture where we have all of the characters in the hotel room, there appears to be two Daves. Is this a subtle hint that the blue mushrooms are affecting Pinkerton more then he thought?
Another point I noticed. Almost all of the Fans look unhappy, or at least annoyed while under the spider. The exceptions being Rumy, who looks neutral, Alisin who looks horrified (big surprise), and Rikk, Roger, and one of the Daves (!) who looks happy.
Roger being happy makes sense. He's out of it most of the time, and his acceptance of the weird means that he pretty much goes with the flow no matter how strange reality gets. And Rikk and Dave are pretty easy-going, so I guesss they're also willing to accept a new reality more easily then the rest. Rumy probably less so, but still more then say, Margaret or Will. Hence her neutral expression.

You're miscounting. There's only one Dave -- the other one is April, I believe. The way it breaks down is thusly:
Clockwise from 12:00
Shanna asleep in the chair
Marsha and April slumped against each other
Will -- manhandled out of a lecture hall, into a car, out of a car, and into a hotel by PINKERTON -- spreadeagled on the floor
Rumiko, Rikk, and Alisin on FAANS bed #1
Katherine, Tim, Roger, and Mike on Trasitional bed #2
Margaret and Dave pissed and blissed against the wall.
And, of course, Pinkerton as the Master of the Watch in the center.
Has anyone else noticed how all the characters from one strip are grouped with all the characters from another, with the notable exception of Shanna? This could be just to maintain the symmetry of the dial -- Shanna <--> Alisin, Margaret <--> Will, etc. -- or maybe to emphasize her distinction as cast member voted most likely to leave the island first.
Or maybe I'm just reading to much into an aesthetically pleasing arrangement of comatose drug victims. Feng Shui's got nothin' on this room.
~f

You know, I don't think Alisin's twitch has anything to do with that cross. I don't remember where I heard this, but I suspect that Alisin was raised as a Christian/Catholic or something along those lines, and "converted" to the Satanic Goth-chick that we all know during her "I hate my parents so I'm going to do whatever I can to piss them off" phase. I think, in fact, that she might have been sent to a private Catholic school as a kid, since her parents are so rich. It explains a lot about her personality.
Anyway, I think the real reason for Alisin's twitch is that she's seeing Rikk acting all hyper-dependent on Tim and herself. In Alisin's mind, Rikk is the most selfless person she knows; a pillar of strength, which is why she likes him so much. This image of Rikk acting like Dave (all unsure of himself and fidgety) doesn't jive with what she already "knows" about him.
It's the same way with Shanna. She's really not questioning her own memories; after all, your memories define who you are, essentially. In fact, she's not questioning herself at all; more that she's questioning Kath, who is acting in a way completely different from what she "knows" to be true.
It's interesting, really, that no-one isquestioning the situation that their in, or even their own memories or personalities. Shanna and Alisin are only noticing the differences in the personalities of the people they're with.
And now I've either confused you all, or confused myself. Either way, time to get back to studying.
