If you go back and read the CRFH archives, you might find that the roomies are more normal than you think. OK, maybe "normal" isn't the right word, but the characters are becoming extremely well developed and each has their own personality, strengths and flaws.
Take Margaret for instance. She at first looks like a gun nut psycho chick, and in a way, she is. However, in The Adversary storyline, it was revealed she has very credible motivations for why she turned out that way and how her personality is developing away from that angle.
*donning asbestos suit...*
Ok, folks. Everyone else seems to be enjoying the CRFH crossover but I'm going to throw my $.02 in.
I don't like it.
Maybe I'm just getting crotchety at the ripe old age of 22, but I don't want to have to learn a whole new cast of characters and plot. I come here to read about the FANS, dagnabit!
The whole reason I got caught up in the FANS webcomic is that in one way or another these are people I can relate to. I've seen echoes of them in my own college's scifi club and have had friends with similar quirks and personalities. The fun part is seeing fairly realistic fans put into unrealistic situations.
Tentacles? Werecoyotes? Laser eyes? If I want that, I'll read X-men.
Again, as some of you may remember from my Auxilerated crit, I believe that violence in comics should serve some sort of a purpose as far as plot advancement or character development (the FANS inside the FiB, or Rumy vs Alisin). I realize this is supposed to have a purpose plot-wise, but it's just degenerating into the webcomic equivalent of gladitorial combat. "Ooh- let's pit this one against that one and see which'll win out!"
So when's it going to end? When no one's left standing and they've all beaten each other senseless? Or as someone else mentioned, is this going to try to verge into new territory by actually having a losing party in a crossover battle? In any case, let's just get this over with and move on.
[/tirade]
Well, I can see why some might not enjoy this, but I think it will wrap up this week and move on to the next stage, where in it is revealed that Pinkerton is the real enemy (and somehow figures out a way to beef himself up to withstand the combo of the Fans and the Roomies).
I suppose it's the adolescent male in me, but I'm actually enjoying this. True, I'm glad that scenes like this one are rare in Fans and that plot and character are first and foremost. Geez, if most comics did that and only occasionally had fight scenes, I wouldn't have stopped collecting regular comics (I used to read X-Men, but my favorite parts were the character interactions, especially in the Claremont/Byrne years).
--Tuscahoma
In all fairness, Nireena, we've seen bizarre things in the Faans-verse before. There have already been vampires, computer mind-control programs, Hyperman, aliens, a magic "wishing" stone (the 23-sider of power), etc. The Roomies aren't THAT weird.
I agree that this fight scene does seem to be dragging on. Part of the problem with a page-a-day format is that even a moderately involved battle takes days of real time to play out. I get the feeling that this is another episode that will read MUCH better in the archives.
Speaking of which, I have a query for T and Maritza. WOuld it be possible to do something to the frontward and backward buttons to let us read these things in order (have yesterday's Faans link forward to todays CRFH and today's CRFH to today's Faans)? I suspect that Keen might not let this happen too easilly, but it's worth a try.
Now I gotta go; I have a fanfic segment to write.

</QUOTE>
Yes, I know. As I said in the original post, the Faans face wierd situations and encounter wierd people; however, while they are not ordinary, the Faans themselves are believable human beings. That is a large part of the draw for me. Now I suppose I could just consider the CRFH yet another wierd opponent for them to face but this just seems staged instead of being part of a larger plotline.

As I slowly evolve into a lurker I was hoping not to post today but it seem a thread finally gave me something to say. Mostly because it's different.
I totally relate to the crossover angst. Going and reading a whole other comics' archives just for two weeks of strips is a little much and I've only done it with one or two comic that are now regulars. This is the purpose of crossovers, to expand readership and communication between fans. It doesn't always work, for instance the Sluggy Freelance crossover with User Friendly fell on plenty of deaf ears. It generally depends on the comic you're looking for. I like both of these comics (duh) so It's something I looked forward to but I can most definitely understand how someone could not enjoy it. Right now it seems like just another intermission. Perhaps if it had been woven into a story it would've been easier to swallow. However, since this came to both comics just after momentous respective storylines it seems that the main characters "start to relax but get into a big rumble" and that's it. Of course once the entire story unfolds it will definitely make more sense (that's because T's at the helm, no offense Maritza but you win too many nonsense contests) and hopefully flow with the ongoing story. No Star Trekkin on either side hopefully, though I wouldn't be suprised to see some of the roomies (rumis? heh heh, I still get a kick out of that) forget about this little encounter when you think about how it compares to demons and elder entities.
I personally hope that this isn't going to end up with a dramatic speach to unify them all. I'd love to see hostages taken and a tense negotiation scene resolve everything, with Pinkerton there trying to agitate everyone as the fans explain things to (possibly) deaf ears. I'm just crossing my fingers on this one. Maybe the Roomies could run off to regroup with Mike and Margaret hauling the others back to the vehicle. The fans could then turn to the offensive calling up Jones for intel on the Roomies. Maybe then I could stand some "Let's talk this out" action. I definitely want a decisive WIN in the fight though. No draws, ties, or cancellations.
I also don't want it to end up with Pinkerton getting pummeled and carted off to jail again. I'd like to see him at least turned over to the FiB. It would be even cooler if they actually DID explain things to him and he understood. Maybe giving him some antidotes to sober him up a bit before sending him off to join the Job corps or something. Job Corps? Huh, Murasaki must be getting into my brain, that's where HE got shipped to.
Oh, and I applauded when Dave zapped Rodger. Way to use their powers on themselves! Ha ha!
------------------
