Doesn't this seem a little Twilight-Zoneish? The inspiration for Will answering Will's question.
On a side note, how could I have forgotten the Doctor? This also reminds me of another character; one not really in Science Fiction, but worth mentioning... Bugs Bunny. I mean, he's the Trickster a la Warner Bros. Hmm, I guess in many ways, the Doctor, especially as played by Tom Baker, was a more humane version of Trickster.
--Tuscahoma

He did what any 'knight' or 'paladin' would do although he never was given title or blessed. With Frostbite at his side he was a force of good to be reckoned with.
Dominoes (Heroes): Master of the Electricity and the Millinum Wave, he defended the world against another diminsion with his comrades called the Eliminators (all characters created by me). He stood when others fell.
Devon (Vampire; Clan: Ventrue): though the shadiest of characters, Devon still fights for his humanity by being on the darker side of good and uses his finacial influances to keep his crumbling world safe.
As for others, I like the everyday hero types, like yourself and the rest of the SFC. Another one would be Spiderman.

------------------

My favorite characters are : Captain America from Marvel Comics, Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, Colossus from X-Men, Aragorn and Gimli from the LotR, Simon Snowlock from the Dragonbone Chair series, The Fantastic Four,Bruenor Battlehammer from the Icewind Dale series, and Scotty from Star Trek. I guess the reason I like characters that stand for law and order and good. They are gentle but yet strong and wise. They may be gritty and crass but underneath beats a heart of gold. They stand up for the weak and the oppressed. They are not afraid to stand up and be counted like so many others are. What I think this says about me is that I try to emulate these characters in order to be a better person and to reinforce my belief that good will triumph over evil. No matter how dark the road may look or how desparate the times may be, the light will break thru and times will get better with hard work and faith in God.

let see favorite charicters hmmm
these are the ones from final fantasy three which in my opinion is the greatest game of all time
Terra, Gau, Cyan, Shadow, Sabin, Celes, Locke, Edgar........okay so pretty much the entire cast of ff3 (including Biggs and Wedge i mean cmon those guys are just cool) aside from strago and that little painter girl
i also liked Squall and Rinoa from ff8
from books my favorite charicters would have to be Owen Glendower
Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd from the sword of truth series of books
what i think it says about me well as seeing that almost all the charicters i like are pretty much the hero's of the book i guess it means that i have a desire to be the hero in things, this is mostly because i used to be a prety weak small and shy guy

I think it says somethng about me that I've lurked until this question came up, actually...
Hi all, I'm a newbie of sorts. My favourites are:
Aragorn (LOTR). All that is gold... I loved Tolkien's turning a cliche around to make it say something beautiful.
Miles Vorkosigan (Lois McMaster Bujold). Because he has a brain and a heart, and because he's *always* in over his head and manages anyway.
Eugenides from Megan Turner's "The Thief". He might even be as clever as Miles. He certainly gets himself into just as much trouble.
Lyra Belaqua and Will Parry from Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Because they're gutsy, intelligent and heartbreakingly brave.
The Pooka from Emma Bull's "War for the Oaks", because he's a Pooka.
Alec from Ellen Kushner's "Swordspoint". Because he made my jaw drop in surprise and amazement.
Terry Pratchett's Death. And Nanny Ogg, because of the hedgehog.
Pratchett and Gaiman's Angel-demon duo, Aziraphale and Crowley (from Good Omens).
Will Stanton from Susan Cooper's "The Dark is Rising" series, because he does what he has to even when it means being all alone.
Robin McKinley's Beauty and Gail Levine's Ella (Enchanted), because they turn stereotypical weak fairy-tale heroines into people I'd like to meet.
Lloyd Alexander's Gypsy Rizka, because she's fun, clever and very human.
Lord Fanny from The Invisibles, because she's hilarious, disturbing and scarily powerful -- sometimes all at once.
I guess this means I respect intelligence, courage and an ability to make people do a double-take. I also seem to like the misfits, the ones who don't quite fit in, or don't quite get it.

Who knows how many times he went around the world before he discovered magic. I'm guessing a century or two. Dedication is nine-tenths the art, as Mabruk said. Actually, I find a little of myself in most of the male characters of the story (Lir for his loving pursuit of mystic beauty, Captain Cully for his wish to live in dreams, the Butterfly for his love of poetry and song, Schemdrick for his dedication to the Art and his wisdom, and evne Hagrid, with his obsessed desire to hold the mystical to him). Definetly one of the great works of fantasy.

I've always liked for Dick Grayson (now known as Nightwing) because we got to see him grow up. I have a bit of a soft spot for all of the non-powered heroes in major superhero comic universes.
I've never been able to really get behind Superman. Sure, he's the ultimate good-guy. It just seems as if things come a bit too easilly to him. His arch-nemesis Lex Luthor is just an ordinary guy up against this ultimate hero. it's just easier for me to root for the underdog (the same reason I always hated the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Bulls, and Dallas Cowboys).

I always find these questions so hard to answer. I have a terrible time picking "favorites" of anything. But I think I've finally narrowed it down some. (And this thread has been around how long?)
okay, in no particular order:
Schmendrik the magician; both the movie and book version of Peter S. Beagle's "The Last Unicorn". I guess thats the part of me that admires people who keep trying, how ever long it takes to get it right.
Giles, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Is it the intelligence or the devotion to the cause that I like best? I can't decide. I also find him very sexy ^_^;
Makino from Hana Yori Dango. The weed, never gives up and won't be kept down. Wish I had her gumption.
Death, from Neil Gamian's Sandman universe. I suppose I like the sense of humor. Things are never so bad that they can't be improved by a perky smile.
Sana-chan, from Kodomo no Omocha. I want her energy. I think I wish I had more of her pro-activeness too. I can be kind of wishy-washy.
Peter Parker/Spider-man, super-hero with a sense of humor, devotion and intelligence. And humble too...
