Tim's Hat (or lack thereof)
No, Tim, isn't wearing a hat. I just couldn't resist.
All kidding aside, this page is one of many that was simply heartbreaking.
Tim and Will obviously cared for eachother for a long time now; they only showed it through teasing and insults. Now that Tim is obviously hurt, Will is trying to reach out -- and Tim sees his only self-worth in terms of his possessions.
There's something profoundly sad about that. I'm going to cry a bit, then go to sleep. In the morning I'll see what the rest of you have to say about this.
It IS sad. It's strange, TIM always seemed so comfortable with himself. Sure, he was a bit of an outcast but he has a sane, supportive family. I was a bit suprised to see his self-worth THAT dependant on his stuff. Today's page explains that more, however.
Will is clearly continuing to be dilligent in his role as morale officer. Considering the whole POINT of the FIB's attack was to break their morale, that's very important.
Prediction: Since Tim isn't coming, Will and Alisin will talk about Rikk/Alisin's problems. Clearly Rikk is avoiding facing his personal problems because he wants to concentrate on what the team needs. He doesn't realize that problem is critical to the team working as such.
Yes, I found today's page somewhat saddening and revealing... but in ways I hadn't anticipated. Tim, as it has been noted, has always seemed like the most self-confident of the group, if not the most pro-active. While Rikk took charge, I always got the impression that Tim knew he could take over the group at any point in time and run it flawlessly, but he was too much of a 'big picture' kind of guy to worry about leadership. Now it seems that all that, well, dare I call it arrogance? was a cover up, but not for raw greed. It seems to me that shattering self-doubt is the ugly little secret being hidden here... and I, muddled as I am by my sleepy, Breath-of-Fire-Four-induced 2 am trance, can almost feel a little hint of empathy.. a strange connection.. a sense of brotherhood with Tim... and it's scaring the crap out of me. I'd better go to sleep before I start contemplating the Weakness listing in my FiB file..... o_O
-Wish
Really creeped out now.

They both get drunk and get caught together with Alisin planting a big wet smooch on Willy (heh heh, that sounds naughty). This would be the first and only smooch which sobers the both of them up. However, if Kath or Rumi were to notice, most likely Kath because she has a better chance to be round the bar than Rumi, then who knows WHAT twistiness would ensue? Rikk's busy meditating and him catching them is too obvious.
In response to wish's sentiments.... I think it is disturbing to see Tim looking so glum and being so upset and acting strangely.
The bathing and other hygine changes are what interest me. I think that Tim may be making changes in his life to try and adjust. Cleaning up his appearance towards the societal norm seems to me to be a way for him to function without his stuff. When he was child he was snubbed but he found he had cool toys. So he focused on his toys rather than "fitting in". Now that he's gotten friends who don't like him just because of his toys and now that he's lost his toys, he may be slowly realizing that he can try an "fit in" again to make his bonds with his friends stronger. To put it another way, Tim loved his toys first and his friends (think social interactions) second. Now that he has lost his toys but still has his friends, he could be going through a change of priorities. Of course he's still snippy because he's in mourning and transition. I think he'll get over it in time and be the great guy we all know and love.

Now, what I'm REALLY interested in is how Jones and more importantly GUTH fit into the peacemaker motif.

I'm too old and cynical, I'm afraid. Tim, to me, seems mostly a nerd; along the lines of Fooker from GPF.
Consider what he hasn't talked about yet: loosing his computer and media stash. After all, his prime characteristic was "hacker", and most of what defines you as a hacker isn't in your head, its on file; passwords, shell scripts, "neat hacks", files you can trade, collections of stuff found and squirrelled away. He's lost it all; perhaps he isn't sure who he is any more?
Muttley
