... the gratuitous panty shot you've apparently all been waiting for. As a friend of mine would say, "... and there was much rejoicing."
At least Thor leavened it with the past few days' gratuitous They Might Be Giants / Mono Puff references. (They were totally rockin', Mr. Thorvaldson.)
Rumy's Matrixesque leap here reminds me of my favorite Rumy moment of the entire series so far-- when the team is all charging at Arlen at the convention, thinking he's the bad guy, and Rumy's in fron just sort of floating in midair, arms crossed, legs akimbo, poised to deliver some serious tail-whuppin. There was an odd sort of serenity in that image that really stuck with me. I'm curious, y'all: what are YOUR favorite Rumy moments NOT involving a blatant display of her underwear? (=
... and does Rumy actually have some sort of super-powers (conveyed upon her by Xenochiclet? Or is the ability to leap incredible distances common among kung-fu Japanese schoolgirls?
-- Nathan Alderman,
rambling.
*Sigh* Well, there it is folks...

Firstly, it IS rather gratuitous. I don't wanna complain (heh heh) but there's more...uh...detail than I was used to. It's kinda creepy to me.
Secondly, yes. The skewing of perspective and distance is a common Martial-Arts-Schoolgirl power. While she can do incredibly dramatic moves she has no real "power", as evidenced by the flick.
------------------

Favorite Rumy moment without blatent underwear shot? Probably the bottom panel of http://www.faans.com/d/20010214.html . That whole "You're not worth it" look on her face as she throws Hyperman, and Hyperman's look of shock.
Um, would http://www.faans.com/d/20001227.html count? While we don't see her underwear, I'm sure Gunth does.
Another favorite is the scene in the orriginal strory, Rumy holding the doors of her local comic store closed while talking on the cell phone to Shanna.
The best Rumy scene in all I think was page http://www.faans.com/d/20010102.html . Highly emotional, very dramatic.

In regards to East vs. West at sunset, and Rumy in general, I have a few comments to make:

Rumy has had to deal w/ a -lot- of really terrible emotional treatment at the hands of men/aliens throught the series, and I, for one think it's payback time. Get 'em good Rumiko-chan!

Rumy Kicks A$$!

Whoop, there it is! Whoop there it is! Whoop, shaka laka shaka laka shaka laka shaka whoop! Shaka laka shaka laka shaka laka...

She really does have nice legs.

So help me God, T., if Hyperman (read Another Alien/Man) has harmed Rumiko in any significant way, I am >>REALLY<< Going to get angry and you -don't- want me angry, just ask..........never mind, they don't speak that well anymore...

P.S. I'm sorry, T. I really don't make threats, and I know that Rumy-chan is just a character, but she represents more than that to a lot of people, and I, for one, have seen too many women hurt in one way or another in my life. I would like to avoid it, if at all possible, with Rumiko.

I'm pretty sure I know where you're coming from, Daikon. I care a lot about Rumy, too. And yet...
There's nothing like writing to give you multiple personality disorder. A large part of me feels that the characters deserve to be treated like royalty, and then there's this incredibly sadistic bastard in me somewhere that keeps throwing things at them.
Mum's the word on Rumy for now, but you get to see more female suffering in this very strip. And trust me, there's male suffering coming right up.
"When will the hurting... STOP?"
