But then again, I always did enjoy the villains more than the heroes...

As for me, I was *afraid* I'd like her too much for my sanity, but then she went ahead and hurt Rumy.
<g> She could annihilate whole planets for the greater good, and I could still defend her, but if she has harmed Rumy, SHE MUST DIE!

Seriously now, yeah, I like her too... As a villain that is, not that much anymore as a person: The violence used on Rumy (and no, I don't think she's dead - not yet anyway) seems unnecessarily excessive... With half a dozen people and all that technology surely the General could have only stunned her if she wanted to...

True - so I'd have to say that she was again making a very specific point. She said that she was there to eliminate "those who would keep you from that destiny," not "the one who..." after all. With half a dozen people and all that technology surely the General could have only stunned her if she wanted to...
It's almost as though the General wants to make martyrs, to pick and motivate the sort of opposition that will eventually lead to the sort of society that would create her or her likeness.

Well...........it's more original than rooting for Miller or Thack, I'll give you that.
I don't know if I've ever rooted for Fans! villains because I like the main cast so much. However, should wish be right about Tim the Fanboy. Well..................

I've always liked Jones, actually. We see glimpses that he wasn't always this cynical, that once he had cherished ideals. He still does, in his own way, and somewhere deep down he hates the necessities of his job.
I don't see any of that three-dimensionality in the General, though. I still don't trust her as motivated by anything purer than self-interest. Rest assured that she's promoting her destiny by her actions, above anything else.

Jones fan here too. I always go in for the conflicted "evil empire" bureaucrats and idealists whose outlooks soured when reality took hold. They're way more interesting. On 2002-04-04 14:11, KingLeon wrote:
I'm pro-Jones myself. Sometimes, I have trouble seeing the worst parts of how the FIB does business... They do capture and imprison good creatures, but also capture and imprison the BAD creatures... It's a whole Last Bastion of Light sorta thing... Good guys are worse than the evil they fight.
I'm not quite sure if the General is as good a villain as Jones yet. She has style, I'll give her that, but I haven't seen much substance yet. I'm sure that once she and the story have developed my opinion will change, but for now I'll just have to keep my eye on her.

Yep, that is my view. My interest has been peaked, and I can't wait to get into the meat of the character...that doesn't sound right. On 2002-04-04 15:02, Blondlot wrote:
