Burning Question
Can anyone tell me what statistical categories are representd by the playing cards on the cover of FAANS! issue #5? I'm always really curious about how a creator imagines his characters' abilities in an RPG setting (which is why I love the Fans GURPS stats). Am I the only one with this strange fascination?

They look to me to be akin to the Palladium system, on a scale of 1 to 5 rather than 1 to 18+.
PS = Physical Strength
PA = Physical Agility
PE = Physical Endurance
MS = Mental Strength
MA = Mental Agility
ME = Mental Endurance
So I guess you can multiply the cards' stats by 4 to get the equivalent Palladium stats and roll the remaining stats and run them in RIFTS. (Shrug.)

That is funny; I always thought it was based on the World of Darkness system, since the game they were role-playing (Vampire Empire) was a take-off on Vampire The Masquerade, which uses that system.
Almost forgot: Welcome aboard J!

Thanks for the info, FP (and thanks for the welcome, Double)!
Well, this is interesting... these numbers reveal greater variation than the GURPS attributes. Is anyone else surprised that Rumy is statistically the second strongest member of the club? Her agility and toughness I never doubted, but.. she's so tiny! Course, considering how she dealt with Hyperman, I shouldn't be so surprised. Also, I think Shanna's Mental Agility should definitely be higher than a 1! She's at least average, if not a little above...

Since I play (and played when I got the issue way back in the dark ages) both Palladium and White wolf games (both universal systems I might add) I can safely say that it is a fusion of the two in a very vague way. FP got the abbreviations right as far as I can tell.
The names for attributes seem to be much like Palladium's but the dot system seems to be like White wolf's. The characters of course represent the Vampire: Empire characters they played in that issue.
Oh, and for all of you who don't get it........... BUY THE COMICS! It makes the archives easier and you can get the KODT crossover!

Mental prowess is like physical prowess. If you don't exercise it, it atrophies.
Shanna showed some resourcefulness early on. But she didn't get a serious test of character until she was forced to attend a Vampire game, which she honestly believed would drive her insane.
If we measured her stats today, they'd be quite different.

When T and I came up with those categories and numbers we worked from a combination of Vampire, Shadowrun, Dangerous Journeys (Mythus), and Palladium (we used to be in a Heroes game together -- I miss playing BEM) systems.
We would have done it differently if we'd had more space.

Ahead of you, The KODT crossover was where I first discovered Faans. However the forces of laziness (too lazy to hunt them down in our culturally deprived area), and 21st century instant gratification desires (suspicious of the mails, and to impatient to wait). stop me from getting the other hardcopy issues

I believe T recently added information on mailing checks to him.
Welcome ohamsie! I deperately tried to rearrange the letters in your name for a secret meaning but I couldn't. (is-a-home?)
Here's the basic guideline here on the Fans! boards. Be respectful of other people, keep the language decent, and reign topics in enough so that they deal with fandom related stuff. That's all! I'm sure things'll be just fine.
I'm glad that you said that you came due to the newsbox, it's good to see such fast results! I'm sure you won't regret adding Fans! to your list.

I suggest you get a money order instead of sending cash. It's safer, really.On 2002-03-08 22:07, ohamsie wrote:
Hi, I just read the whole archive. I was wondering if there was any way to buy the comic set without using Paypal, like possibly sending cash through the mail?
(note to self, finally remember to send the money order to T on Friday, been sitting on my desk at work for two weeks.)

Well, you're free to continue to be mysterious. But if you want to explain yourself, scroll down to the <i>What Does the F.I.B. Have on You?</i> thread and fill out a dossier!On 2002-03-09 14:38, ohamsie wrote:

Sorry, it's my duty to plug that thread to the newbies. :|
Okay, I might look into sending a money order after spring break, but I don't recall seeing anything about where I could send the money order to.
And since my being a newbie has been brought up, there are a few questions I'd like to ask.
1. Is the official title of this comic Faans or Fans? I think I've seen both.
2. Are there any buttons I could use to link to Faans/Fans from another site?
3. How often does the comic update? I've been checking all weekend and nada, zip, zilch!
4. Well, I guess there are only three questions for now.
