What's going on?

Maybe I missed a notice that would explain everything, but why has Fans! switched to stories that have no connection to each other. Is it a guest-writer month or what? I mean it's all interesting and great an all, but I just wanna know what's going on. I doubt that this is all supposed to be part of the true storyline since I just don't see the sci-fi club killing anyone, even police officers wanting to burn books.
Thanks in advance for the explanation!

Umm.... welcome to the Fans! boards, I guess. If you checked a few of the ongoing threads, you'd notice that, in fact, guessing what the zark is going on, is currently one of the favorite pastimes of the readers.
------------------

I've written every page o' FANS. Sorry, but I'm a little proud of that.
Why so unrelated? Good question. I think the stories have been getting progressively more scattershot ever since "Ex Machina." Things get even more so with the next story, but then they start coming together with a vengeance in early March...
As for why things are so different in this week especially, the boardies seem pretty sure that it's either an alternate future, an alternate present, or a manga story of Rumy's.

So what I get from T is that he hasn't spilled the beans on what is going on and all that alternate reality stuff is just speculation!?! This storyline will be the end of my sanity.

In addendum to my rushed post this morning I must add that the biggest reason for my impression of the Keenspot boards was the extreme confusion I felt each time I visited. Having over a hundred posts made while you we at a class can be a bit overwhelming, especially when you only understand half the references.
I hate to seem like I'm singling out CRFH's board here too. I visited four or five boards during my time "over there" and I probably just tried to take in too much too fast. I did learn a lot about message boards though. Especially from the madness on the Sinfest boards (the source of my most negative impressions apart from the individual which T mentioned).
I have looked into sevral boards here on Keenspace and found the same results. I once investigated the three webcomics that rivaled Fans! for maximum posts, Framed, Boy meets Boy, and Sikopametsuorsomething (sp?). I also looked into their boards to see what exactly was going on. I found the same differentiation in styles between them as I had seen on Keenspace. A tight community at Framed, a swirling mass of chaos at Shinku., an intense discussion at Boy vs Boy. I'm rather glad I did that investigation (and plan on repeating it for fun)because not only did I add Framed to my list* but I also discovered Pokey the Penguin, the Dark Horse Fave of my webcomic list.
*partially due to the "Escape" that effected so many of my other comics.
------------------

I suppose, on a short note, I should put my own two cents worth in here. This is the second board that has made me feel like I'm not some annoying new person to be trounced out (the first being the Sluggy boards). The other boards either ignored me completely (to the point of someone else making my exact point and being acknowledged as if it were their own) or actually tried to make me feel like an ass. So I say to you all, thank you.
------------------

I'd care more about the CRFH boards these days if they didn't have such a stick up their butt about OT posts. We seem to do just fine over here. Heck, between my two favs, here and PVP, I'd say most of the posts aren't "on topic" but still relevant and interesting.
That, and Demon Cat seems to think she owns the CRFH boards. If there's one attitude I hate on the net it's "I have 2000 posts, so I'm better than you! Your opinions have no weight, f'ing newbie!" *shakes head*
Jarnor23
[This message has been edited by Jarnor23 (edited 01-21-2002).]

I feel that I have to raise a voice in defense of one of my favorite boards, which happens to be a keenspot board. Over at It's Walky, I started out very recently but never felt put upon. The discussion ranges from the mundane to very intense at random time, and there is a definite sense of community between the long-time posters, but not one that is exclusive to others. I even managed to get hooked on their ongoing RPG thread I feel it is very similar to this board, and is the only one I read and post to more.
------------------

In the words of Misquoting Matt the GURPS Fan, "You're preaching to the congregation!"
That was the problem I had with a lot of boards over at Keenspot. I can't seem to get comroftable on a board unless I've been there for a long time like here or at FOGCA. There seemed to be way too much of a tight knit community on nearly EVERY Keenspot board and they were all gated.
I've tried not to let my pride in being part of the "Old Guard*" here get in the way of welcoming new posters around here. Every newbie deserve not to be poked and to have an explanation (or at least a link) to something that will explain what we're talking about.

Oh and on the other note, T said long ago that he didn't mind if people didn't post on the comic but as long as they kept it to something Fennish of Fans! related. We've had so many debates here that sprung out of threads like "Will he? (1/13/01)" or other such totally unrelated topics. We never lose sight of what we're doing here. We're here for the comic and we're here for each other.
* meaning the board before the Keenspace move.
------------------

I stand by my conviction that the CRFH boardies are a good bunch, on the whole.
Theirs is the most active board on Keenspot or Keenspace. You don't manage that level of traffic without getting some conflicts. What's important to me is that they're resolved quickly, with that sense of "the community comes first" that you find in most of the best clubs and companies.
Maybe my status as a cartoonist means I have an easy time of it, but I'VE never experienced snobbery on their boards, except for a single heckler whom I first encountered on the COOL CAT STUDIO boards. (And we seem to have made our peace.)
And THOSE message boards, by comparison, make ANYTHING look good.
[This message has been edited by T Campbell (edited 01-21-2002).]
