Ah yes names. I have heard the somewhat apocryphal story of the mathematician who named his son Arc Sine [insert last name here]. Kid thought his first name was some weird version of Art until high school trig class.
Then, we named our daughter Karuna, which is sanscrit for "compassionate action" (probably some weird karmic thing for a native american to name his child from a language in India). I think it's a cool name, but after we get asked what her name is and tell the person, we make a judgement call. If by the expression on their face they look like they will never get the name, we say her nickname is Kiki.
--Tuscahoma

I go by "Scix" -- contracted from my first and last name.
If I ever sire, it'll be VERY hard to avoid naming a son "Otto" (combine it with the surname, say it out loud).
I was almost named Sherman Francis Maddix Junior. Thanks for the save, Mom!
I feel sorry for our humble host, however. HE only got a single letter for a name!
------------------

My ex-boyfriend was. R.E.O. IV (ie the fourth), and he wanted to have a son sometime in the future, and name him (of course) R.E.O.V, calling him Fiver (like the rabbit!). I thought it was a nifty nickname, but I'm not sure it would be a good one to grow up having... but at least the boy's real name would be "normal". ^.^
----------------

Drat...I'm stuck with a completely normal name offline...
But, my online moniker does have a certain flair, no?
And also, as nicknames go, mine's kinda weird...it's either "Birdy", "Gumbo", "Birdy Gumbo" or "BG". The "Birdy" part's because I used to go (and still usually do) by the name of Raven, and the Gumbo part is because a friend of mine *made* me into gumbo during a slightly deranged chat about two years ago...
As Miscellaneous Witchburner #2 said in Monty Python, though, "It got better..." ^_^
------------------

Anyone here recall the movie Office Space? It had a character named Michael Boltin, who couldn't tell anyone his name without hearing about how much they loved the singer with the same name and getting asked annoying questions like "Are you related to him?" I imagine Flying Fish has gotten much of the same.
On a different note, I plan on naming my son(If I have one) Logan. It's got a fan boy edge without being too obscure, plus it's not so uncommon that you can be made fun of for it.
------------------

Just a little note to :
A) Congratulate Czhorat on his marriage (woo! Go Czh!)
B) Inform you all that I have arrived at my new apartment in one piece, in spite of Mother Nature's attempts to burry myself and my family in snow. While not yet online full time again, I will be offically 'back' soon.
C) Contribute a bit more to the 'name' discussion. My name (Elissa Nichole) has both a meaning and a quirk. It means 'Concecrated to God with a victorious heart' and when combined with my last name, my initials are E.N.D. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I AM the living end. And what do I want on my grave marker? Take a wild guess.
-Elissa

Hey, BD, we've got similar tastes in boys' names!
For years, I've been saying that Logan would be a cool name to give my son. However, I suspect that yours might be referring to Logan's Run, whereas mine refers to a certain wedge-headed Canadian with claws.
As for girls' names, I want to give my girls names that are either easy to make nicknames for (Elizabeth, Jennifer) or name them Alice and Dorothy. (after, well, you know.)
Congrats, Czhorat!

Well, let's see about names:
Family name: Depew. (Go ahead. Make the joke. Then make sure your will is finished - 33 years of the SAME DAMN JOKE will make me want to strangle people.)
First name: Geoffrey (well, it's not so bad except when people try to spell it.
My mother's father wanted me named after him; my mother refused. Then he said something about the middle name... thought... and said no, it would be bad. His name?
Otto.
(My initials were almost GOD. A friend of mine, years ago when he heard this story, told me that he would have been amused by having a friend whose name he couldn't, due to his beliefs, write the initials of. He was an Orthodox Jew.)

In this case you'll probably pass mostly unnoticed with some minor 'congrats, again' posts from close friends and family members. Now if you made your second ceremony something new, then you would get the same level of attention.....
