...who hasn't read the entire LoTR trilogy? (Or am I just the only one who wishes there had been some sort or warning about the spoiler...?)
Ahh well. There was a bit of a spoiler mentioned in the Elf Life forum for LoTR some months ago, and Ive forgoten what it was. I'll probably forget this too, by the time I get around to finishing reading it...
------------------
"All right, it's instinctive. But the instinct can be fought. We're human beings with the blood of a million savage years on our hands. But we can stop it. We can admit that we're killers but we're not going to kill today. That's all it takes-knowing that we're not going to kill...today. ... Peace or utter destruction-it's up to you." --James T. Kirk

The Kirk quote is from "A Taste of Armageddon" (Episode 23 or thereabouts -- late first season). The Enterprise travels to a Star System fighting a war with computers, where the "casualties" have to report for execution. An effective if not always perfectly logical episode, it does give a pretty good feel for why old-school Trekkies love the original series so much.
Maccabee,
