Whats up with Ancient Messages?

Postby FirEireann on Thu May 31, 2001 3:15 am

I'm trying to read the Thrusday comic and keep getting re-directed to another site.
Has some A**-hole cracker hijacked the page for his own evil ends? I was really getting into the story!
------------------

Here is the URL to which I'm getting re-directed: http://www.kyokipress.com/shadowdrop.js

This happens with some browsers (Netscape, particularly) when a linked javascript fails. Instead of shrugging it off, the browser moves to the address of the failed javascript where it shows the error message.
The Shadowkeen dropdown script, which is hosted on Kyokipress.com, fails because the people involved have jointly decided to take it down.
Solutions:
1. Don't use Netscape. Otherwise you will get this problem again. If you hate Internet Explorer, try Opera, Mozilla, iCab (Mac only) or Konqueror (Linux only)
2. For Katherine: take the dropdown off your homepage.
3. Also for Katherine: make sure you know about these things. Subscribe to at least one channel (egroup, other mailing list) where people can tell you these things. I know it's a bit of a drag but otherwise you will get problems like this again.
------------------

Another solution:
In Netscape, go to the Edit menu and click on Preferences. Click on Advanced. Uncheck Javascript to turn it off.
Of course, this is a kluge solution and any javascript dependent functions on any Web page will be broken, but it does work for a temporary fix.

Ahhh, that's what it is. Kaichi told me he was shutting down the dropdown, but, lazy as I am, I figured it could wait.
I'm fixing it right now....
okay, there. The update's in the queue.
[This message has been edited by Shiro (edited 05-31-2001).]
