Bad news & apology

Postby Shiro on Tue Apr 17, 2001 2:25 am

I'm really sorry about this, but I won't be able to do The Way of the World.
At the time I had the idea and built the site, I had a large surplus of Ancient Messages pages and a lot of spare time. However, I've been swamped with work these last few months, and my surplus is disappearing faster than I can keep refilling it. I have toyed with the idea of dropping AM down to 5 days a week to avoid missing days.
In addition, I have no drive to make more Way of the World pages. It was one of those many ideas for comic books I always have. Some of them go places, others don't. It's impossible to tell which is which at first. But The Way of the World is not going anywhere, and the stress of worrying about it and the preoccupation of wondering what to do with it is hurting Ancient Messages. So I'm going to have to drop it altogether.
What really bothers me is the characters I invented for The Way of the World. I may not love them like I do Lyssa or Amaroq or Gill, but I still feel they deserve more than what they're getting.
I changed the index template to a blank page titled "sorry, there's nothing here," and if you linked to it, please remove your link.
I'm sorry I led everyone on for so long, and I hope you don't think less of me for doing this.

Well, that's the way it goes sometimes. You certainly did your best, but you also obviously care about your stories. Enough to not do something if you feel you can't get it up to the standards you have set for yourself. I certainly don't feel any less of you for that! So, don't sweat it! We'll just have to "survive" on AM!
Personally, since AM is my favorite comic, if its a choice between being able to read WoftW at the cost of reducing my AM fix, or no WoftW but keeping AM going full steam, its an easy choice!
You may want to put this explanation up on the WoftW Website just so people who don't read this forum or miss this message get the situation.
As for WoftW, keep the characters and story in the back of your mind. Who knows? As your life situation changes (which I believe its about to do), your ability to draw it may change also. If so, let us know, and we'll eagerly read your new offerings. If not, thats OK too!
[This message has been edited by gordon (edited 04-17-2001).]

Thanks for understanding.
I wish I could have done the series, but like I said, I was out of ideas and my life is going to change a lot in a few months.
Time to reveal what a little punk I am:
I'm going to college this fall. I thought I'd do The Way of the World over the summer and end it around the time I left home. But looking at it now, there's no way I'd be able to hold up a second series. There's too much stuff to do. Also, I have no idea how college is going to affect my life and my amount of spare time.
And since I posted that message, the new AM pages are looking a lot better. The art got a little sparse while I was worrying about what I was going to do. But now it's back to cross-hatching and blood.

Well, I'm at the front of a huge population boom, so there were far more applications to colleges this year than in the past. I wish somebody had told me that before I applied to elitist schools I didn't have a chance in hell at getting into.
Only one school, Beloit College, let me in. At first I was disappointed because I'd always regarded them as a safety school, but their English department is amazing, they gave me a big enough scholarship that I won't necessarily need a part-time job while I'm up there, and they're the exact opposite of my high school. So I'll be happy. The campus has honest-to-god Indian burial mounds on it, it's my kind of place.
You think I'm making that up. http://admiss.beloit.edu/guidetosite/TurtleTalk9.html

My experience is that if something isn't working out, the axe should fall early so you don't waste too much time.
------------------
