Deac justs laughs at Will's joke but tries to be more alert as well.

As the group approaches the village, several boys barrel out of the trees yelling "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy... " and collectively tackle Will.

Will says "Ooof" as he get's kidpiled.

Job whikkers almost as if he is laughing, as he looks down on is fallen master.

Deacs starts roaring with laughter and even snorts. He subsides after that, and gives a little cough, with an embarrased smile on his face.

(after any reply from Vlad)
Toma shows the restraint of a professional card player in not laughing. Instead, he saunters over the mass of writhing kids so he can mock without being loud enough to potentially alarm the watchers in the weeds. "Man overboard, and being attacked by pirahna! Need a hand, Captain?"

As they move further into town, Deac can feel the eyes of people looking at him, starts to feel uncormfortable. Then the eyes miss him, mistaking him for a dark shadow or something to overlooked. As the timoltuous horde of small children run in and around them, Deac asks Will, from the depths of his cowl, "Are all these yours?" gesutring at the small crowd of observers.

From a long way off Deac, spots the square. "Well, monk, we're here. What now?"

Toma muffles a laugh before replying to a question not directed at him. "Call it a wild guess, but I'd say the answer is yes and no. Small towns, especially when they're deeply religious, tend to be very close. Even the people who've got no relation to Will probably know him better than you know any of your aunts or uncles, and these folk could likely be counted on to band together in defense of anybody else in their 'community family. The way some places are, you'd swear they were a hive mind... it gets downright creepy when you can ask for somebody in the tavern, walk straight to their house and find word of your questioning got there before you."

He looks around a bit. "As for what we do here... this sort of place is a little too small for my tastes. Looks like the sort of town that puts gambling and adventuring about on par with loitering. Unless the Captain knows of problems he hasn't been telling us, we'd best be looking around for crafts or labor we can contribute to. There should still be time enough in a day to figure out where we are and where we go from here, individually or in groups, and being totally idle would only make public opinion cool off real fast."

Will answers the question with a "Only half a dozen of em. The rest are friends and cousins."

Will listens to the comments of the group, and then adds.. "Tonight yall are our guests, I'm sure the good Lord had his reasons for bringing yall, and for sending me out to meet ya."

After a moment he continues "We can visit with the Council tonight after dinner. "

As the square gets closer, a large building is visable at the end of it. Other than the size of the building, the other feature that sets it apart is the tall tower that extends up above the main doors.

Vlad looks around at the town, and at Will's family, and sighs to himself. He smiles politely at Toma's comment but makes no reply. As they approach the square, he is still looking around, with a sad smile on his face.

Deac looks at the monk's face and asks, "Why so glum, monk?"

"Few people are, at least as far as I've seen. Oh, you'll find stronger family ties are more common in smaller towns, and not wholly absent in big cities... but even in a small farming community not every family can manage to be anything like close. Sometimes it seems like nobody in an area is even capable of it." Toma shrugs. "Well, not everybody needs or wants that sort of thing. I'm a wandering gambler, so I hardly have any room to talk."

John's smile faded and a sad look came over him. He still walked on without saying anything.

Will pauses when he gets to the square as a group of elderly men approach. Most of whoom are wearing the garb common to one trade or another.
Will bows to the elderly group, then turns to the adventurers and says "Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to our High Council.", Turning back to the High Council, he says "These are the gentlemen I was sent to meet."

One of the Council steps forward, and says "In behalf of our group, we welcome you, I'm sure you are travel weary. We don't have an Inn to speak of, however, we do have rooms in our great hall where you can rest and refresh yourselves before dinner."

Deac touches two fingers to his covered forehead, then says quietly, "Thank you, your honors, for the kind welcome. Rest assured, any roof is a welcomed improvement. It is a pleasure to meet you."

After his introduction, Deac quickly moves to Will's side and hisses at a barely audible whisper, "What do you mean "sent to meet?"

Toma makes a simple but smooth bow to the council members. "Yes, your hospitality is greatly appreciated, but we do hope that we won't take too much of your time and effort. If there is anything we can do to help you prepare for this meal, please ask."

Will blinks at Deak, and then laughs..
After a mement he settles down.. "Heh, I'm sorry my friend, I forget sometimes how odd we seem to others."
"We are often given warnings, or instruction ect from God. It's usually like a thought that won't go away until you do something about it."
"In this case, The Patriarch told us that friends were being sent to help, and that they would need someone to meet them. "
"We've learned, sometimes the hard way, to heed such warnings."
Will pauses for a moment..
"Usually the promptings make sense, other times however, they only make sense afterwords. "
---
The council smile at the offers to help. "After you clean up, you are welcome to make your offers to the cooks."
---
Will says "This way Friends", and heads for the great doors of the main building.

Deac stares at Will, then a slow, broad smile creeps over his face. He reaches under his chin pulls out a small, simple silver cross on a thin, sturdy chain. He shows it to Will and softly says "Indeed it is. Praise GOD, and his wonderful gaidence. You speak wisely, Captain. Please forgive my earlier hesitation. We do not know HIS will and we often do not understand until the time has passed. I would be glad to be help you and your village in any way I can."

Deac replaced and the cross and fell back in line with the rest of the group. With a small smile still visible, walks with toward the hall. "I like soup," he says to no one in particular.

Elsewhere in the Village:

A pair of Brothers, one in his late teens, the other in his mid 40's stop by one of the village houses and knock on the door..

When the door is answered they say "Greetings Jake, The village is going to be getting together for dinner tonight at the great hall, we wanted to make sure you were invited."
...
A short time later, a group of older girls stop by...
"Jacob.. You will be at dinner tonight at the hall won't you? There will be dancing after!" afterwhich they all giggle and run off talking..
...
A little while later.. A pair of matrons stop by with a couple kids in tow. "You are coming to dinner aren't you Jake? You should eat more, need to put some meat on those bones of yours.. "
...
A little while later. ....
