part of my meaning is just a dissatisfaction with the whole 'nutral' concept.
the other thing is the fact that someone can be following a family or tradition that goes illeagal at times
how else do you explain the fanatical cultists adventurers constantly run across, I mean they are 'lawful' as far as the rules of their religion go, but they are 'unlawful' in virtually all other respects.
I also wanted to get a good idea as to how to balance things out.
the 'selfish' idea came mostly from the paladium RPG where the three main types of alignment are good, selfish and evil. (2 sub alignments in good, two in selfish and three in evil)
on the other side I really like the lawful-balanced-unlawful-obsessed part which really hasn't changed much.
it's this darn human emotions matrix!
(kudos to whomever can name the cartoon that came from

)

I tried another organization which I don't particularly like cause it goes right back to the whole nutral organization but just adds to it.
but I felt it was worth trying out.
lawful - option - unlawful
good - option - evil
you have two alignment spaces to fill, A/B
both A and B can be option but cannot be the same option or opposing options
the options are
traditional - VS - radical
balanced - VS - obsessed
religious - VS - skeptic
forgiving - VS - vengeful
(mostly the forgiving part was just as a counterpart to vengefull, I know I've seen where a character's main drive is just that they want revenge for something so I know it can exist as a character type.
mostly I'm just experimenting at this point and this way I've gotten rid of selfish...
SHOOT! I've gotten rid of selfish! but there are selfish people out there I know there are, I need something to counter them too!
AYYIIIEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I'm sorta glad I've never played those games...

This is ridiculous. Let's just invert the setting for Neutral Neutral.
Now the effect of an object that's fixed with an allignment is a gradient across the grid. An Evil object will affect anyone who's not Evil alligned, though the more you allign with Good, the more it affects you.
Say that someone who's Neutral Good will become sick when holding this Evil Scythe, while a Neutral Neutral person just gets a little nauseous. See? This prevents any munchkin's efforts to accessorize in weapons of opposing allignments.
Granted I still think the chart is flawed, but you could always just use Neutral Neutral for someone who's young and yet to form a solid worldview... a teenager for instance. Thus, they have room to grow and form their opinion. And the D(or G)M can change the allignment later according to their actions in the RP. The exact degree of swing to one end or the other is solely up to him/her and the player.
Now does any of that solve your problem? Or do I need to get the cattle prods?

This whole "Neutral" thing reminds me of a Futurama episode. Here are some quotes from said epiosde:
Zapp: "I hate these filthy neutrals Kif! With enemies you know where they stand but with neutrals? Who knows! It sickens me."
Zapp: "What makes a man turn neutral ... Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?"
Zapp: "I have a plan! We will single-handedly attack our arch-enemy: The neutral planet!"
Kif: "Oh jeez."
Zapp: "Once the neutral war machine lies in ruins, I will be a hero again. And the DOOP will reinstate me as captain."
Kif: "But sir, that plane makes no sense."
Neutral Official: "Your neutralness, it's a beige alert."
Neutral Leader: "If I don't survive, tell my wife: Hello."
Neutral Leader: "All I know is my gut says maybe."

Actually, I think that's how it works in 3.5, now. A character can wield any item of any alignment, but unless your alignment coincides with the item's, you'll suffer Negative Levels while wielding it. Good characters who wield an Evil item suffer 2 Negative Levels, while Neutrals suffer 1 negative level.

It doesn't quite work that way. Holy/unholy/axiomatic/anarchic weapons do not bestow negative levels on neutral characters. On the other hand, intelligent items
do bestow negative levels on characters whose alignments do not match the weapons', even if the weapon doesn't have an aligned enhancement. E.g., a holy weapon with an alignment of lawful neutral will bestow one negative level on an evil character and one negative level on a non-lawful character; non-lawful, evil characters gain two negative levels. Of course, most munchkins won't play with intelligent items to begin with.
So, a 3.5 ranger
can twin wield a +5 holy axiomatic morningstar and a +5 unholy anarchic morningstar to do stupid amounts of damage to anything not of a neutral alignment.

Pfft, come on, be more imaginitive than that.
Drop the negative levels entirely---- then RP the weapon to make the munchkin's life utter hell.
Imagine the look on his face when he has to ARGUE with his weapon every morning. Or when his overpowered Morningstar of Whatever keeps trying to concuss him out of sheer pique. Or when it makes his other magic devices sapient, then organizes a wildcat strike....
The possibilities are endless.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Oh man...

That just made my day.
Heheh... "No sir, we've no munchkins here... they's all eaten by their own weaponry... quite sad, really..."
