Well vinyl is still popular among collectors and retro crowd.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.
I also seem to recall reading in a magazine (Popular Science I think) that someone is working on a way to read the old Long Play records with a laser. Some old LP's have music and other audio recorded that just isn't available anywhere anymore, and the plastic in the record is no longer capable of supporting the play stylus. It would even eliminate skips from sratched / damaged records as well as filtering out noise caused by dirt on the surface of the recording as well. This technology would also apply to the old edison recording cylinders as well. This would bring back a lot of early recordings without damaging the century-old media.
I want to say that the Smithsonian is in on the project, but I just don't recall.

Well seen where you can play a record using your PC scanner.

OH! Records! Yeah, I think I remember reading about those in my history book...

And we had to walk to the tv to change chans, and we only got the 3 networks and a few super stations.

In case I am scaring into thinking that I that young or they are that old, I do in effect know what records are and I had a bunch as a kid. My Spiderman record was my favorite. I know what vinyl, LP, and TV with dials. Sorry if I scared anyone. You are not THAT old. 8)

... I remember listening to records at my grandma's house, and when we were younger (so I am told), my sister and I were the remote control(s) for the TV with dials.
Then again, come to think of it, we still have a TV with dials (though not the main one)...
...and when we're at home, we still tend to be the remote controls. Hmmm, I guess some things don't change.

You know, my family used to have a stereo (please, someone tell me how to spell that right....) that played: The radio, a Cassette tape (2, actually), and an 8 track. Never seen an 8 track, but we had a player (till it croaked.) Also, is anyone in texas near the "Big Bend" who has an LP player? I have this Audio New Testement on Vinyl.... wanna see how it sounds....

Bah. Vinyl records were the death knell for LP's. They should have stayed with bakelite and the other hard-surfaced plastics of the time. With the center layer of aluminum, yet!
Vinyl... Feh... Y'get your stylus caught in a freakin' BUBBLE in that cheap soft vinyl plastic and you'll know what I'm talkin' about...
In other news, I've succeeded in repairing my record player. I've connected the output of the turntable's preamp to the line input of my computer, saved old music complete with pops and hiss from cheap and rather badly-worn vinyl as a WAV file, and burned it to a CD! Yes!!!
It helps to rub furniture polish into the record before playing it. I pledge it!

A few years ago I found a record player with all that at a yardsale for two bucks. People sell players dirt cheap, just check out your local junk shops and thrift stores and yard sales. I have several players I picked up cheap. The challenge is to find players that play 78 rpm records.
I also had hooked up my record player to my computer and recorded lots of cool stuff, stuff that will never see life on CD. Like the record shown on my avatar.
