as for all the other catastrophies that occur that we haven't talked about I think there are two main reasons

1, we never hear about them, it wasn't until it was posted on the forum that I even heard about katrina, yes I get that disconnected sometimes.

2, we are human, as unfair and unjust as it may seem, we can only handle so many catastrophic things before we just give up on the world in general. these things are terrible and solidus caused them

but that doesn't give us any more time or energy to talk or do anything about them, I'm sure there are people close to these catastrophies that are just now hearing about katrina as well.

That's true. I COULD mention the flooding that's happening down here, the injustices that are being flown in the face of Mexicans, the atrocities that some hospitals are doing down here, but I suppose everyone is better off choosing what to worry about and in what order.

The National Guard is setting up a temporary tent-city in inland Louisiana for survivors, but Louisiana state Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco is fighting it. She wants them all sent to Texas and left there.
One can guess why. So far at least 26 of them have been arrested for crimes they've committed since arriving in Texas. Considering the confusion that no doubt exists around the shelters, I'd guess that only a tiny fraction of the criminals have been arrested.

Also Katrina was a NATURAL disaster, those others you talked about Dane were the problems caused by evil men. And there was plenty of talk and releif send to the tsunami from the US.

*growls* I seem to have found the real reason the levees broke and New Orleans got flooded.

I heard on Hannity today that back in 1965 someone gave the order to the Army Corps of Engineers to improve the levees around New Orleans. They drew up plans and were going to implement them when they hit a snag.

It seems a local environmentalist's group heard about the plans and sued to have them scrapped. And they won.

Now, I don't know how accurate that is, seeing as I heard it on the radio and I don't know if I heard it right (not even sure who said it, Hannity or the caller). But if it's true, that's just one more reason these people should be ignored and not given money. They think what they're doing is right, but in the end it proves wrong. They thought they were "saving the environment". Now both the enrivonment and humanity have suffered.

What complete and useless idiots. I hope these extremists get what they deserve.

Well the eco freaks won't let us use DDT which is great in fighting malaria. Kills the Mosquitoes dead, better to have dead people than use something to kill the bugs. And yes, DDT used properly has dang near zero enviro impact.

then is congress the opposite of progress?

so if they are for progress then are they anti congress?

and if so then aren't they in open rebellion against the government?

you'd think we'd have enough enemies with terrorists and all but now we gotta deal with these punks too...
