Anyway - that just shows that some people do name their kids after a Deity!
Jesus is nothing more than a Greek version of Joshua. Jesus was given that name to show that he was picking up the gauntlet last held by Joshua, who had taken it up from Moses, who had taken it up from Joseph (Jacob's favorite son).

Clear?
Your words are clear. Could you provide some scriptural support?

I think maxgoof is right. The etymology of the name that I know is:

Middle English [Jesus],
from Late Latin Iesus,
from Greek Iesous,
from Hebrew yesh

Amazing. I know about the history of english, but I couldn't even begin a structural breakdown like that.

But if Jesus is the evolution of the hebrew name Joshua, then why are there people still named Joshua around? ::Evil kitty grin::

"Cool."

Actually because of hebrew to english translations, Joshua, who premiered in the OT, continued through... and the people who always insist on names out of the bible. Hense why I changed my name to Somber.

Back to Cindy Sheehan....

She came to Austin, Texas, and led a march. (I live in Austin).... I'm depressed by both the warm welcome she recieved and some of her statements... as far as I can tell from my paper's account of it, she doesn't have a clue about ANYTHING related to the war or politics....

Saddening and depressing, that's what she is. And uninformed.

"How many more of our kids are you going to send overseas so we can pay $3/gallon for gas"

Got news for ya, lady.

1.)Gas is only $3/gallon in texas (or at least in austin, where she said this) if you buy PREMIUM. If your head is so far up your ass that you'll buy PREMIUM and whine about gas prices, you deserve to pay more.

2.) Second, the united states has some of the cheapest gas of the first-world countries. What about the netherlands, where gas is over $6/gallon? Why aren't you whining for them?

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/international/gas1.html (For example)

Don't give me the "omg look at venezuela" argument, or try to whine that they pay near 5c/gallon in Iraq. Gasoline is subsidized by the goverment in those countries (U.S. Does it in Iraq). Before you ask why not the U.S. do that, ask yourself: Would you want to live in Iraq or Venezuela?

3.) ... we are not sending people over to Iraq so we can pay $3/gallon. But of course, figurehead of the anti-war movement that she is, she can't say anything else. Now, these anti-war people strike me as believers in human rights and the value of human life. If one of the U.S.'s official political allies were to openly suppress dissent, arrest without cause, execute without trial, bury in mass graves, gas their own people, and run their own people through meat grinders, would they be okay with that? Because a.) Saddam did that to his people, and b.) He wanted to be the U.S.'s political ally. Sorry, Sheehan, this country doesn't support that kind of treatment, and won't suppor those who do.

4.) If it weren't for people like your son and our army who fight for the country VOLUNTARILY or not, if it weren't for people standing up for what we call "democracy" and "human rights," even if they themselves didn't fully grasp every intricate detail of the issue, you very well could have been quietly executed the first day you set up camp. Thanks to people like your son and our army, we don't have to worry about that sort of thing. Not every citizen can understand or is even capable of understanding the whole global political picture without having been there. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, simple as that. Almost none of us do. And those that do don't share, because that could end up getting more of our soldiers killed. Show some respect, honor their sacrifices, leave global policy to those who have actually DONE it, and shut up.

In the interest of accuracy; gas prices in Austin *did* spike up today above the $3 mark in some places (but not where I live).

This, however, was caused by the 20+ Oil rigs that are missing from the gulf of mexico in the wake of the hurricane. And by the fact that lack of power/useable roads/broken pipelines is hampering transport of gasoline/oil. NOT by the war in Iraq.

My mother does things similar to this but on a smaller scale. She'll have a pet peeve, say, my playing of MMORPGS, and when I complain of being tired, or I don't get such a great grade in school, or I foget to do something it's "Oh, it's that game, it's taking over your life..."

Summary: They are attributing events generally agreed on as bad to being caused by whatever they personally are on a vendetta against.
