So by the logic of this article, can we say that condoms don't work because people can neglect to use them or because they can be used incorrectly? (Not that I thought they were dependable in the first place, but hey, using their own arguments against them makes it even more fun.) On that basis, I'd say it's time for them to stop pushing their ideological agenda at the expense of young people and fund a comprehensive program to get across the full idea of completely saving oneself for one's future spouse.
(Where's the icon for shaking one's head? Okay, insert that one here.)

May I point out the obvious fact that not all that long ago we had it proclaimed by a President of the United States and affirmed by the Courts and Congress that **blowjobs don't count anymore?**

And--- what a shock--- kids took us at our word!

There's also the point that thoughtful kids will resist making pledges that they know they might not keep, while the cheaters will happily swear to anything just to sound good. I think the whole pledge idea attracts the ones who want to -appear- good to their parents without actually having to -do- anything. I saw that a lot as a teacher - kids who didn't plan to drink blew off the pledge business as a waste of time and distrust by the adults - the ones who planned to drink gave the pledge as a way to try to con the adults. (Not that it worked - we knew who not to trust, for the most part.)

I wish I could find it, but I recently read an article stating that unsafe teenage sexual activity had been declining for several years, and the experts couldn't figure out why. The idea seemed to be that teenagers brag about having had sex a lot more than they actually have (well, duh!). Oh well - just another case of "my expert can beat up your expert"...

Heck, when I decided not to hae sex unitl I got married (which right now is looking like I'll be around 30 when THAT happens. :( Can't even get a date. :'(), I wasn't thinking about STDs, I was thinking about showing the Wifey that I could be trusted not to have an affair and such. So it seems natural to me that oral sex and such are just a waste of time, a coniving way to skirt around my promise.

Kinda shocks me that kids will do one thing and not another even though doing the one is practically doing the other.

To the kids...
