Well, hey, why not? Think of the advantages.
If you get stuck somewhere in the wilderness or jungle, everything becomes food. If you can chew it, and digest it, it's food.
Granted, you wouldn't want to be doing this if you had a choice not to... some of those critters can be carrying some nasty bugs.
You'd be surprised what kinda plagues got started in the human race because some idiot thought that critter over there looked tasty...

I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

Oh, I know about that.
Just wasn't brave enough to post it out in the open. Some people get a bit uptight when you start talking about the facts of AIDS... which I won't go into.
I've heard another one that transfered through the use of the human GI tract (not talking about a piece of military red tape here, people) was SARS. Apparently, they'll eat just about anything in southeast Asia. One wonders if this is such a good idea.

As far as good / bad things to eat, I believe the critical thing is in prepatation. If you cook something well enough, you should be able to kill almost all of the nasties that inhabit it. (100 % of the bacteria at least, I don't know how durable viruses are)
Regarding Tulpa food, one of my coworkers retired last month. I gave him a hand in cleaning out his office. His quote to me was...

Then there were the wonderful discussions held over MRE's out in the field...
Ah, but perhaps they are best left there...

Well, that left me with a wonderful image for the rest of the day"Well friend, one more bite of the poo sandwich, and it gets passed on to the next man!"
