2 March (What In The Name Of...?)

Is that a dragon? Truth be told I thought he looked a bit lionish at first. Is the same commissioner for Gelarid and Ookami behind this one? I think some people may regret not having spent more on Goblin Hollow this past month...

There aren't any dragons anymore, I think... it is a part dragon like Gelarid IMHO.

What does "Tulpa" mean? I couldn't find it in the dictionary.

Also, I wonder how a creature with wings puts on a shirt. Maybe the wing slits in the back are elastic, or maybe there's velcro at the bottom.

The word is of Tibetian origins. Some of the earlier strips explain the concept. Basically it is what the Posse are. Physical beings brought into existance by the mind of someone. Some survive the death of there creator, some don't.

Here's the actual strip.

Hvae an old X-Files comic with a story called "Tiptoe through the Tulpa" , might as well break it out and read it again.

Good evening.

Well, whatever that is, it's apparently our next commissioned story arc.

Walksfar?

Swear I know that guy from somewhere...

You should--- he's a very busy man, involved in many of the conventions. I met him at Confurence, he was overseeing the art sales and auctions.

Ah yes, CF...haven't been to a convention since CF died, actually. Poverty and all that.

Not to state the OBVIOUS; but it may be that the "Dragon" is a really ancient "Tulpa."

An interesting suggestion. I don't think it is that obvious though... we haven't seen a Tulpa without a living tulpa-father who is prone to conversation yet so most people(in the population of the earth as a whole, assuming they had read this comic) might have a mental block against figuring it out. I don't count myself among that 'most people' and so my Honor as a Thinker requires me to give you kudos for thinking of it where I did not.

Good evening.

Oh dear, the Posse is getting unstable/malfunctioning?

IS THIS THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE POSSE??

Getting unstable??

GETTING UNSTABLE???

They were ALWAYS unstable - imagine taking a single aspect of your personality - your intellect, your inspiration, your inner child - and animating it in a separate entity. The result will almost always be unstable. Only by working in concert do the various aspects of your personality achieve balance.

My guess is, this contact may be along the same lines as consulting a child-care expert to verify that everything is actually normal - either that, or they are trying to find out more about the shapeless, tentacled mass they are sharing the house with.

At the risk of speculating wildly (but, hey what else is this board for if not that?) it's possible that the Posse's job is done. When they arrived Ben was lonely, miserable, with no future and no life. They were, I think, supposed to help him, to be "a vital, dynamic, full-lived individual" as one of the earliest strips says. Since that's all changed, what useful purpose does the Posse have anymore, save perhaps to wreck havoc with his life?

Of course the more likely scenario is that he's here to take care of that tentacle "gnorfll" saying eye-ball thing.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing, the guy is married and has his own buisness now. What purpose do they serve for him now? Only the master Ralph knows.

I wouldn't panic. If nothing else, if they were needed to kick-start him along the path to fulfillment, they may be

a) necessary to keep him there
b) part of the ongoing plan of Whoever sent them to Ben - what would have happened during the bank heist without them?
c) impossible to take back now that they're present (recall the sequence with the Evil Clown. They do seem to have their own souls.)
d) necessary to the comic - can you imagine Ben and Lily -without- them?

I'll bet they'll make interesting baby sitters some day.

I know this is thread necromancy but who cares, it'll bury itself fast enough anyway.

I just wanted to say that I freaked a bit when I first read through the archives because I'd already seen someone going around forums as "walksfar"

and (coincidently) I was further reminded of him when the "cleverly disguised as a responsable adult" phrase started getting used around around here because at the time (he still does I think) he was using it.

I found himhere which, (also coincidently) was the forum for what I had considered the best comic I'd found to date, since then I've only found one other comic that took it's place. and that was the one that got me participating in forums in the first place.(well, that and the fact that everyone round here's crazy) :D
