I'd have to agree, a lot of comedy has gone downhill in the last few years. Forget "The Five Words You Can't Say On TV." Give me "Who's on First?" anytime! XD I have a DVD with that, and it always makes me laugh.

"So, who's on first?"

"Exactly."

"Exactly's on first?"

"No, Who is on first!"

"What're you askin' me for?!"

XD LOL I love those guys!

=P That's probably older than most people here... even Sharuuk and Squeaky here.

You want classic comedy, try the old radio shows.

Like when a mugger robbed Jack Benny:

Robber: Stick 'em up, your money or your life."

(LOOOOOONG pause)

Robber: Well?

Jack Benny: I'm thinking, I'm thinking!

For political humor, I liked Rocky and Bullwinkle...
What can I say? I entered this current reality in 1955. Next year I'm hitt'n the big 5 - 0!
:o

But I've still got most of my hair, and most of it is still dark.
And for the first time in my life, the Democrats aren't in control of this nation. The sheer entertainment value of the past few years has been well worth waiting half a century!

Rocky & Bullwinkle were great. There were some really BITING stabs at politics that the kids didn't get but the parents did.

Not to mention upsydaisium, counterfeit box tops, and IMHO, the least subtle dig - when Boris and Natasha got hold of the stupidity-inducing Goof Gas and then didn't bother using it on the US Senate after listening to them debate for a few minutes. "Borees, vhy you not use Goof Gas on zem?" "Somebody beat me to eet, Natasha..."

Notice how there were a LOT of puns in these shows....most of which the kids missed entirely....at least for me I recognized what the Kirwood Derby meant.

Same here, I was under ten, but when that big shipping magnate "didn't pick things up very good," (Bullwinkle said that,) I cracked up laughing.

Have a heart, here. It took me months of reading Harry Potter before I figured out what the pun was in the name Knockturn Alley.

I can't remember if it was me or my mother, but I will say that you are not alone in not getting that one for a while.

Are you asking that people explain there puns as they give them in this thread? The only alternative that occurs to me doesn't seem likely: I certainly don't see how all this could possibly be seen as a dig at your excellent work. Just because they/(we?) like a certain style of humor doesn't mean that that is the only style of humor they/(we?) like. Remember that most of these people have been around a while (the comic I mean as opposed to Life,... I would say 'Planet Earth', but that is highly debatable  ), so you are certainly holding their interest SOMEHOW... 8)

O-Kaaaay....NOW I know about how old ya are... ...it was current events for me as well....which is why I find some of these old political comedy albums so funny.

Heck....go back to some of the 60's era James Bond movies.....who was it that S.P.E.C.T.R.E. was always trying to start a nuclear exchange between? There's just SO much cold war humor in some of the older shows both TV and movie that thanks to the abysmal curriculum of schools today, kids have no idea what it means.

And I seriously doubt if todays kids have any idea just how close to nuclear war we came to on several occasions back then. Let me re-phrase that...the REAL, TRUE, UN-SANITIZED, POLITICALLY INCORRECT version of who the real enemy of freedon was.

8) The serial number ends in K-57, if you check under the wings; one of the first babies born -in- the Space Age. I was exaggerating slightly; my first solid current-events memory is the Alan Shephard launch. I probably did see the kitchen debate as current events, but didn't really pay attention to it; I was rocket-mad back then (still am), but not much else made it onto my radar screen. (This is no longer true. Now I'm a full-fledged eclectic data junkie.)

And yes, it was a different world back then. I remember LBJ campaigning on the issue that Goldwater wouldn't spend -enough- on defense. Mindboggling, really, considering today's version of the Democratic Party. Nixon won just four years later by promising to leave Viet Nam after winning the war, while McGovern was promising to cut and run, and they've gone downhill ever since.

He was also Alan Funt's sidekick. Can you say Candid Camera?

(And if you are really, really ancient you'll recall Hans Conried and Fractured Flickers)

That's right....Alan Funt.....now there was a twisted genius! Do you remember the toy called "Mr. Machine"? It was a "robot" you could take apart and reassemble made of clear and opaque plastic. Maybe 10-15 pieces total, all fairly large, nothing tiny. It was motorized and you could watch all the parts working and turning when it ran. It was supposed to be for kids 8 and up. One of the funniest bits I ever saw on Candid Camera was at a toy store. They had taken one apart and the salesgirl (the bait) was asking customers for help putting it all back together. You should have seen people....ADULTS....trying to reassemble this thing from the pile of parts on the counter. Nothing was missing, everything was there...except the instructions. :o The girl had the box it came in so she could show people how it was supposed to look. She also kept pointing out that it was supposed to be simple enough for an 8 year old. :-? The single funniest moment was at the end when a pair of mechanical engineers, who I'm guessing, had been working on this thing for about an hour, gave up in defeat. And this was after declaring their credentials...

Not only do I remember "Fractured Flickers"...which was funny as hell...and I don't think it lasted more than 6 months, I remember Conried as "Uncle Tunus" from Lebenon (sp?) on "The Danny Thomas Show". The last time I saw Hans Conreid was on an episode of "Kolchak: The Night Stalker". The episode was "The Knightly Murders". He played the curator at some medieval museum.

Yep....I'm OFFICIALLY ancient!! :(

Argh!
You HAD to bring up "The Night Stalker"!

'Way off topic now, but dang it that wasn't the best show of its time.
Karl Kolchak was my hero.

LOVED IT....ya almost had to feel sorry for poor old Tony Vinccinzo..I've been collecting the episodes on my TeVo and transferring them to DVD minus the commercials. That and the original "Avengers" series......Diana Rigg helped me get thru puberty. Along with Maryanne (Gilligans's Island) and Batgirl (Yvonne Craig). :P

The original Avengers had Honore Blackman as Steed's partner. They didn't show those in the states.

What about some brit produced shows like Supercar, Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet, and Thunderbirds? (Gerry Anderson series)

And there were some lower budget shows like Diver Dan, Clutch Cargo, Space Angel, and Rocket Robin Hood. (I only saw it in Canada)

Oh, they are bringing back Davey and Goliath. Not sure if they will make them CGI or not :)

Now for me to do something screwy like being almost on topic . . .

Will Lily manafest some tulpas of her own?

From what we have seen one kinda has to be a weirdo or a geek to generate tulpas, Digipokemon aside I don't think that she is quite enough of either to fit the demographic... then again, our sample size IS rather small...
