Good evening.


I have some of those games on a MAME (multiple arcade machine emulator), about 200 of them, and they fit nicely in 1 CD-ROM, but there's nothing like the arcade machine itself.

I wonder if they have Spy Hunter....

I'm getting a classic Acarade game vibe here... Early eighties.

My Mom LOVED Centipede.

The one I want is Thayers Quest, put out by the same people who brought us Space Ace and Dragon Slayer.
I got hooked on it after it came out. Then, went to sea a few months (i was in the navy at the time) I get back, and nobody has it anymore!

I found out later that the video disc technology used was incredibly unreliable and would break down with a dirty look. I've also heard that there's a home video game version of it for x-box or somethin. Someday, when I win the lottory, I'm a gonna get me one of those gadgets!

There was a game in a pizza parlor, I can't remember its name, but one if its voice files told you "catch special weapon to increase performance". Anyone remember that one?

Pole Position? Probabally something old, since it was yet another game from the eighties.

Do I?! That was probably the only video game cartoon that had the LEAST to do with the video game!! Maybe that's why it lasted until 1988....

I remember Kuma (sp?), a character that I declared to be a "wuzzle", since it appeared to be a kangaroo-rat-cat-racoon or somehting, lol...

Well, it had the basic plot of the game. Pole Position was a racing game, and one from the eighties, at that. So the two main characters raced their cars. But they had to beef it up with the secret mission stuff, because a show about racing is not going to last very long.

Hot Wheels World Race, anyone?

I remember the two Hannah-Barbara racing cartoons: one was a conventional ground race with un-conventional racers, and the other was a literal Space Race. Both featured Dick Dastardly and his canine companion Muttley as the main villians. No, I do not recall the names at this time, unfortunately.

The first racing cartoon was Wacky Races, which featured other colorful characters such as Penelope Pitstop and the two cave guys who looked like kiwi fruit.

My favorite 80s video games would have to be Joust and Crazy Climber.

I had thought it was "Wacky Races," but I was unsure, and I do abhore presenting inaccurate information. Do not forget the Army Surplus Special, or the Creepy Coup.

There's an increasing number of old games (starting with the simpler ones at the moment) coming out as controller-sized units you hook directly to your TV. Under $50 and you get over half a dozen classic games that used to be arcade consoles or separate cartridges in the early home video units.

(Pitfall and Xevious were the only two I saw that interested me, and they were in different units.)

Currently M.A.M.E. emmulates over three thousand (many are clones re:copies) coin operated video games.

If you are looking for the ROM's google "mame burners" a full set can take over 4 DVD's

And please pay attention to the caveats - M.A.M.E. is never distributed with ROM's, and you should only get those ROM's that you have a liciense for or that you are researching as a game developer or computer historian.

That said there is also another version called M.E.S.S. - Multiple Emulator Super System. It emulates many of the old PC's of yore. Apple IIe, Intellivision, TRS80, Commodore 64 etc. Again you will need the ROM's for those systems.

Have fun, go nuts, but clean up after yourselves and keep the abuse to a minimum.
