We can question it, but it really depends on the intents and determination of the prowler.

Breaking glass makes noise and leaves sharp edges. In addition to the risk of being cut, the noise might alert anyone inside, neighbors, an animal that will make enough noise, attract a passing police patrol... and there's always the chance that glass is attached to a concealed alarm.

It won't stop an informed, determined and prepared (or merely stupid) assult on a building, but it can keep out an opportunist.

More to the point, an open window is an explicit invitation to a prowler to step on in. It's certainly more inviting than a closed on.

You're right in one case - if a prowler has targeted a specific house, a closed window won't stop them. But if they are just cruising, looking for an opportunity, then an open window is just asking for trouble.

On another topic: I wonder if Ben is going to suggest that they get married before she moves in?

I had an odd thought... If Ben is most concerned with Lily's comfort, he might volunteer to camp out at her place. She'd likely sleep better in familiar surroundings, and let's face it - women need more closet space than she's likely to find empty in a bachelor's place, while a guy can get by for a week easy with nothing but a few changes of underwear and a "shaving kit".

I'm not sure if it's universal slang, but in my understanding a "shaving kit" includes toothbrush/paste, deodorant, a comb, and a few other personal items even if the person does not actually shave.
Also called a "toilet kit" or a "kit bag"... Eh... whatever.

Mine is part of my "Git Kit".

Also known as a "crash kit" -- as in "I'll just crash here for the night"?

That works - Especially as my "Git Kit" includes a tent, stove, fuel, food, water, and other similar items. I don't get much time off, so I like to be prepared when opportunity arises. Toss the kit in the truck and head out...

That's off-topic though, I guess, unless Ben has a Git Kit too. I don't think that's likely... There can't be that many weirdos like me around.

They're more common in professions that travel, or have unexpected schedule changes and long hours. Ben isn't likely to have any of these.

Besides, his posse could show up with a few things to make his stay tolerable. (I'd include a link to the "at the door" strip for his first date with Lily, but the strip server for Keenspace seems to be down.)

So, everyone pay close attention to this arc. It's gonna be an interesting ride, and very little will be left standing.

Which is probably why that store should've never let Gunther rent that small bazooka...
So is this it, or is there more to come?
