Fanboy poll, y'all!

There's just so many types who deserve that title!

I'm sorry, but the 'lifestylers' are the ones that creep me out the worst. Anyone who can base their identity on a piece of second-string fiction, mediocre TV series, or doofus-butt RPG is NOT someone that I want operating motor vehicles or preparing my lunch...

I'd choose the ones who want to tell you all about their latest pet socio-political-religious opinion, with no invitation from their chosen victim/listener. You know the type - tries to twist any conversation, on any topic, to the one idea around which this person has built his entire self-image.
I guess that include life-stylers - so that's a close enough vote.

I voted for the stinky ones, who drive for days to get to the con, don't get a hotel room, sleep in their car (which is already funky from the drive), wear the same clothes for five days straight, and look at you odd when you wrinkle your nose at them.

Almost as equally annoying, however, are the ultra-fanboys, who, if you attain any type of fame or notoriety in the fandom, start following you around everywhere.

Oh, the "puppies". (As a friend who's run con security a few times calls them. Her line is, "Sometimes you have to kick the puppy.")

I voted for the funky smelling guys myself, though I must add that if I see one more overweight fanboy dressed as Sailor Moon I may go Klingon on their butt.

I haven't been to any furry or anime cons, so I don't know most of what these people would look like. I have been to one sci-fi/fantasy con just across the Red River here (Moorhead, for those who want to be specific), and there weren't any real freaks or kooks out. There were some interesting costumes, but the only one that kinda stood out (and wasn't even that close to bordering on disturbing) was the chain-mail bra. Yes, I saw it, and no I'm not sure I really needed to. However, that was about the most offensive/disturbing thing I saw there. *shrugs* What d'ya expect? This is Minnesota we're talking about here...

In any case, I picked the guys dressed up as FEMALE anime characters 'cause that gave me the strongest and most disturbing mental image... >_< I keep getting the picture of the fat guy in skimpy anime girl clothing! UGH!!

Yeah, I'm sure the others are worse in their own respects, but this one really makes me want to grab a cross and Bible to fend 'em off. =P Dunno if it'd do any good, but I'd feel a bit safer walking around the con. Now, if only I can get ahead of some mental soap to wash away that image.

Oh for the love of Mike, IT'S STILL THERE!! I'm not getting any sleep tonight.

Perhaps this will help serve as an antidote by providing a fairly postive example of the feared concept. (Anyone not familiar with the Final Fantasy games should probably just stop here so as to avoid confusion.)

I am a 5'8" male. I weigh about 140, which is a bit more than I would like, but hardly potbellied....
A long term project of mine is to make myself a Freya Cresent (Final Fantasy IX) costume complete with the digitgrade foot extensions....
I hardly think this will be a disturbing thing to see, I would do Sir Fratley, but he isn't nearly as recognizable.
It kinda helps that Freya is pretty flat chested...

There now... that wasn't so bad, was it?


P.S. And yes, I am just crazy enough that once I get the basic feet working and I get used to them, the next years project will quite possibly be to spring load them for a halfway OK vertical leap.... and once I got that down pat I might just MIGHT JUST install some CO2 powered actuator cyclinders (while still keeping the springs to help cushion the landing.)

P.P.S. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Sorry, but you don't get "over the top" until you try to live in the thing for more than a convention weekend.
