Ben and Rico?

That's moving just little bit fast...Seriously, Rico tries to hit all the targets to be a stereotypical "latin lover" type, but he's coming across as someone who's just trying too hard. While he may talk big (at least to his pals in the break room), I don't think he has it in him to push that hard... especially not on the first date! Rico is, despite his temper, basically a nice guy. Merry's probably safer with him than she would be with, say, Fred...

I was worried that someone might mistake Rico for the vulgar rodent coworker from earlier on... seems so.(Hey, let's be honest. Chihuahuas and rats look mighty similar, even IRL.)
To clarify: Rico was NOT the one who insulted Ben's virginity, or made lewd comments about Lily. That was another coworker entirely. Rico is a relatively new hire.
JUST in case people were mixing up the two....------------------

Oh, I wasn't mixing the two up. Rico is brighter than to pick on Ben. Besides, if Rico knew about that teasing, he probably felt some sympathy (and quiet respect) for Ben over the matter. After all, Rico has plenty of sensative issues himself, and would likely be more than willing to cut the bear some slack. As I meant to imply, Rico is a decent type, and despite his "Latin lover" self-image, he's probably willing to place a premium on respect for women. I get the feeling he probably looks up to Ben... in more ways than just literally.And it occurs to me that if Rico heard about Lily's rebuttal, his respect for Ben (and for Lily!) would skyrocket. I mean, for a man to make such an impression on a woman that she's willing to defend him even to the point of exposing her own private life, he has to be something really special, no?[This message has been edited by David Adrian (edited 10-20-2001).]

By the way, RH, whatever happened to that rat? Did Ben scare him off? Did Lily embarass him off? Was he fired over a sexual harrassment issue? If he's still around, I can see a possible story arc...The rat, sensing a safer pair of targets than Ben and Lily, starts teasing Rico and Merry. Rico, pushed too far goes after him in the parking lot. End of first strip...Next strip: Ben picking up Rico from the parking lot, asking "What happened?" Rico explains; Ben starts to go ballistic. Final panel: Merry grabs Ben's wrist, says "No, boys, he's MINE!" Ben's bulldog pops up, says "Now I'M scared! I think I'm in love..."Following strips: Merry (and Lily) begin a running campaign against the rat. He'll have to quit after this...

The funniest part about Monday's strip, to me, is that I still have one of those little plush toys mentioned!
