Well, in MY humble opinion...

Post by Celidah the Bardess »

Firstly, hi, hello, how ya'll doing? I've been reading RH Comics for some time now, and on-and-off watching the forums and RH's LiveJournal, so I finally broke down and joined up. Welcome to me. And, RH, I'm also "bardessc" from Limaayel's Rants.

That being said, I would like to tell Luna that because she is from Scotland, she is automatically cool in my book. I'm just about as Midwestern as they come, but I'm descended from Scottish blood and obsessed with the country and its culture. So, there you have it. You can push your self-esteem up a notch, Luna.

Anyway, on-topic, I am much a fan of coffee and caffine. I drink coffee almost all day. (I do stop after dinner.) Alcohol...well, I'm not exactly supposed to drink it yet, so while I've tasted a couple flavors of hard soda and had a glass of wine, I'm not worried about it. I think, though, when I'm old enough to drink, I'd be a fan of mixed drinks, too. I hate beer. I've never even tasted it, just smelled it--and I still hate it. Which, incidentally, shocks most of the people in my area that I meet. I once had a co-worker at my summer job tell me that going out and having a few beers is "part of being a teenager." *raises eyebrow* Riiiight...

I don't however, mind if others drink, so long as they're not out getting plastered. Like most of the people in my area. Including said coworker and said teenagers. Grrrr.

So...yeah. That's my two cents.

Eh, who am I kidding? I'm a noob; it's not even worth that much.

Well, my dear, allow me to be the first to welcome you here. We're always glad to see another member/victim/resident here at the asylum that poses as a message board. Hope you enjoy yourself here. (Hmm... Limaayel... where have I heard that name before?)

As for the alcohol thing, I'd say I'd probably go the same route as you. =P And I know that flavor is a combination of taste and smell, so I can't imagine I'd enjoy beer too much. Nasty smell. I've had wine and champagne, but only a little, and didn't like either. I don't like the taste of alcohol.

If anyone can recommend some mild drinks I can try (only one "dose" of it of course), feel free to tell me. I'll probably water it down. =P I tend to get a small buzz from the "shots" of communion wine at church.

Yeah, I don't have much tolerence. I'll work on it.
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

You may have heard of Limyaael (spelled it wrong last post) from here.

The best writing advice evar I've read. Specifically written for fantasy, but many of her rants (such as "Idiot Plots and How to Avoid Them") can apply to any fiction. </shameless promotion>

Count your blessings for having common sense. Where do you think I got Quentyn's first experience with ale?

I'm a lifelong teetotaller, but for the sake of experimentation, just to know if there was something I was missing, I bought a single can of beer, took it home, and tried it. I popped the top, took the can, took a single tiny sip....

Look. I've tasted medicine. I've tasted bugs that flew in my mouth. I've tasted soap. I've tasted my own earwax. I've tasted my own vomit. I have never tasted anything as awful, as nasty, as HORRIBLE as that single sip of beer. It was so awful I literally couldn't spit; I had to run to the toilet and just sort of let it -- fall-- out of my mouth. Ebbleaupgh.

I swear, sometimes I wonder about the sanity of our ancestors.

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

Maybe you should have tried Bud Light...

Eh, who am I kidding? When I was a kid I once tried "Carta Blanca" and never tried again. I also tried a few sips from my parents' wine cabinet and again the taste totally repulsed me.

About two years ago the family tried to be a bit formal in our Christmas celebration and bought some IMPORTED cider. And all I can say is that it tasted like spoiled apple juice, ugh.

But enough about me.

Well, I tried a bit of Samuel Adams, but it didn't go over to well. A bit of it in my ice tea worked okay though. Gave it a nice bite.

I tried some of my sisters Giuness (?), but didn't care for it. (We're twins, and it was our 21st birthday.)

I do sometimes enjoy a mike hard cherry lemonade. I think its cherry. Erm. Have to, ah... research that.

First off, Bud Lite is NOT beer. Does anyone here besides me know the Monty Python riddle about "why is American 'lite' beer like making love in a canoe?"

Second -- Celidah, thanks -- although technically, I'm only sort of Scottish. My mother's family were Scottish, too many generations back to count; I just moved here and married one. :)

I think from reading the discussion here that I must be one of the harder-drinking forum denizens. I very occasionally have mixed drinks. I truly, truly appreciate a good single-malt whisky. I also enjoy the kind of cider you can get down in Somerset, where it's 50p a pint and kicks your legs out from under you. And, I like beer. REAL beer, I mean, not that "Lite" swill. More like Real Ales, like Spitfire (mmmm!) or Bitter & Twisted or Fursty Ferret, that sort of thing.

Admittedly, I acquired the taste for cider and beer after I started living here. This is a hard-drinking culture, although fortunately neither I nor my husband or our friends take it to the binge extreme that many stupid people here do. It's just very common to meet up with friends at the pub after work for a couple of pints.
