Weird Al is always a hoot; the flash animation video to go with it makes it even better.
Hee, hee, hee,
Great link Ironfox!
That song always contained the most accurate horoscope for me that I ever heard: Wake up, do a bunch of stuff, then go back to sleep.
It is really amazing how inanimate objects really can predict the futore!

Credit where credit is due, my girlfriend came across it, actually. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise if I hadn't heard the song on her computer.Tbolt wrote:Hee, hee, hee,

Heh,
Last year on the local christian radio station someone posed the question: Is one really a mature Christian if one listens to predominantly secular music. So I looked at my collection:
Wierd Al, Anime BGM, Dr. Demento, Wierd Al, more Anime, more Wierd al, ... Bach.
Hmmmm
Yep, I think that pretty well summed up my level of maturity
Of course, since that time I've discovered Apologetix, Christian Wierd Al YEA!
Apologetix is the only group that rivals my Wierd Al as far as percentage of my musical collection is concerned.
On the odd chance that this might bear some meaningful fruit: I really do enjoy Bach's Organ fugues, does anyone have a clue where I might find a CD of them? A few years ago I scoured the music stores and came up with precious little. I only found one two CD set by Helmut Walcha that had an excellent sampling of Bach's work. The scariest part was that it was the same price as the Wierd Al CD I bought at the same time. Guess which package had the anti-theft device...

If I had a guess, your best bet would be online (Ebay, Amazon, etc) or at a classical music concert, where they usually have recordings like that. And in the same vein, if anyone can find a recording of Karl Orff's "Der Gute Mensch", please tell me. It's difficult to find any Orff outside of "Carmina Burana".Tbolt wrote:

You could take a look at Simon Preston's rendition of some of Bach's fugues. He's played most of them and for some reason his version is quite commonly sold. No biggie, since it's definitely a good version.
Or you could all the way (and slightly over the top) and get a Bach box: A complete collection of Bach's works. One of my friends got one, and I think he's still not half-way through a year later
. Just for the insanity of it, here's a link:
http://cgi.ebay.de/J-S-BACH-COMPLETE-WO ... dZViewItem
(no, that's not my auction)
BTW: Same friend also has the boxes for Mozart and Beethoven. I've always felt that it was rather like buying a village so you can have a house.

Sapere aude!
Thanks for the tips, guys
The Bach Box?!?...
WOW
That looks intriguing, Reignbow, did your friend actually order them from Germany? Or was he able to find a local supplier? (I've gotten lots of stuff from Ebay, but have never been brave enough to post an international order. Well, that and postage is a killer...)
Anyways, thanks again for the tips!
Hmmm 160 cd's...

Uhm, well... he did order them from Germany, but considering both he and I lived in Germany at that point, that's no achievement. Postage nevertheless bordered on insanity. For your purposes, I'd try to find something similar on an american site; other people probably know more about which ones are appropriate there. Ebay.de was just where my friend got it. On the other hand, Bach has a lot of fans here, so it might turn out to be the best place to look in the end. Should you decide to, however, be prepared for Real Ultimate Postage.
By the by: My location ("Trondheim") is because of a student exchange taking me to the far north. In two months, it'll go back to my previous place of residence ("Aachen").
EDIT: I asked my friend about it. The result: If you just want the organ works, buy something in the vein of this:
http://www.joanrecords.com/epages/joan. ... View/99365
The Bach box is a weird animal... you can either get it cheap in very time-limited offers (amazon.de offers it for €98 but available from nov 06), via private auction (ebay et al.) or from music publishing houses for exorbitant prices. I checked one called Haenssler and they offer a 172-cd box for €1349 (i.e. $1727). Postage is no longer a concern; breathing, however, is.
