New Leading Man
New Leading Man
Well, since Nips already been in a couple of flix, he knows some of the ropes. Gullible he can be at times, but DUMB????.....no on yer life.
"Drek for the unwashed masses?"......this lout's disdain for the average citizen speaks volumes.
Methinks this is gonna be a whole lotta fun and with luck, the "director" may not survive it........any body in the mood for a BBQ?
And I frankly don't care if this is a full on slam at MM.......I'm just plain sick of ALL the Hollywierd attacks on this country and the principles that made us what we are.

Hehehe. Yeah, the irony of choosing Nip...
Goodness, the irony of choosing to shoot the thing in Malarkey County!
All I have to say is that this can teach quite a range of important lessons:
1. Know who you're working with.
2. Don't underestimate those you're working with.
3. Especially when you're working on something that is going to mock a given thing, person, or set of people, pay close attention to #1 and #2.
4. If you're going to ignore the last three rules, then at the very least NEVER CHOOSE TO WORK WITH A PYROMANIAC WHILE YOU DO!!! ('Course knowing you're working with a pyromaniac sorta depends a bit on following rule #1. But still, if you value your life...

Can you honestly think of a worse place to shoot an America Bash film than in the heart of Americana? This is gonna be fun. You think Gilly has a rough time of it......wait'll the rest of the Malarkyites git wind of what kind of slam at their core beliefs this film is gonna be.......'SPECIALLY when Nip reads the whole thing. 8)

Considering teh last lead left after reading the scipt I doubt the director will let the new one read it all the wya through.
Especially if he is usinga telepromter, the only parts of teh script he will get will be on a need to know basis.
Yep... when the whole story is out though... start the fireworks! I mean... you've even got chainsaw Jane on the movie! Popcorn anyone?
Personally, I do not care who the director is supposed to represent. The comic does not say anything about it. Could be -any- distainfull, rich, greedy, fat, horrid, pig of a person. Names do not matter at that point
Besides, the boys looked at who was directing and did not automatically say it was a bad person. So they ahve no idea who it is either.

When you think about though, Nip has to be currently on cloud nine. He always wanted to be a stunt actor, but now he has the chance to break through and be a huge star. I suspect he won't get paid as much as the previous lead would have, but it'll probably still blow his mind. When he suddenly realizes the script is what it is, it'll anger him, but will it be enough for him to risk losing a once in a lifetime opportunity like this?
Similar things could be said for the county. I mean let's face it, most good American towns would practically sell their collective soul to be part of a movie (I'm suddenly reminded of an episode of the Andy Griffeth Show).

On his not seeing the script - he's holding a script in the last frame of the comic, so he's going to see at least part of it.
On Nip/Malarkey County selling out to be part of the movie -
1. I don't think they'd compromise so easily. Look at Thelma in the "model search" arc and her reaction when she found out what she was really being asked to do. You could say that by the time things finally turned she knew the matter was more about paying back her "bill" than being famous, but I still think it shows us something about the strength of conviction that she had, and I don't think Nip or Tuck or most of the other main characters in Malarkey County have less than she does. That's just not the way they're painted.
2. Even if you don't buy that, consider what it'll come down to:
A - the benefit of selling out: possible future fame and fortune (though, if you take long enough to consider it, that's still iffy).
B - the benefit of holding out: definite scenario involving lots and lots of fire and explosions!!!
Somehow, given Nips character, I think the prospect of explosions actaully would weigh in heavily against what benefits might come from doing the movie.
Besides, if he comes to his senses quickly - both from the initial excitement and the inevitable anger - I'm thinking there's going to be a high probability, not of open rebellion, but of sabotage.
Just watch Nip - and quite possibly others he asks to help - pretend to play along with the director, all the while outsmarting him and turning the movie into the exact opposite of what he intended, or at the very least burning up his time before destroying it.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! Eeeeek!
It's the first. It's most definitely the first.
Actually, I was feeling left out, because everyone had started putting up their new avatars already and I hadn't had time to put together what I was planning yet. So when I saw NydaLynn's avatar I thought, "Oh, that's a good idea. I have little-kid-me pictures on my computer, I'll just do that until I have something else." So I copied her.
Even when/if I do manage what I'm thinking of, it won't be scary.
But still...
<edit> Ever thought it may go more along with a wish to be more like a little kid again? I mean, look at what I've got for my location...</edit>

I think I'm inclined to agree that Nip will stay on just to do a bit of sabotage. He's a smart guy, and it definitely won't take him long to figure out what's going on - especially with this certain liberal look-alike as the director. The qualities desired for the lead actor definitely don't fit with Nip. It'll be interesting to see what happens, regardless of what it is... *grin*

Hmm, I think the situation with Nip and the Director could be summed up thusly...
Why Hello Mr. Tiger.
Why am I holding your tail? It seemed a good idea at the time.
No, I think it best I keep trying to hold on tight...

it wasn't until the director started trying to describe the locals that I really felt I had sufficient evidence to think bad of him.
the way I see it, his attitude (and possably his diet) could have been from being stuck as the director of a screenplay that (to him) wasn't really worth it or was otherwise contrary. it would explain why his lead actor quit on him. I mean in the first panel it seems more like he's insulting the screenplay then the viewers thereof.
still, I suppose this guy is going to be the typical villaneous idiot who's only real evil is his rather dumb and shortsighted opinion of the world and how it works (which, if he keeps eating like that, the world will be revolving around him. literaly!)

He's holding a script. It's not necessarily the one the movie uses - trials often use generic readings to get a feel for the tryouts without compromising the 'secret' screenplay prematurely.Wayfarer wrote:On his not seeing the script - he's holding a script in the last frame of the comic, so he's going to see at least part of it.

True, that's possible. I would say it's not necessarily the case, since this is apparently no longer try-outs (when they say, "Congratulations, you're the new leading man," I'd pretty much consider try-outs past...). But I could see it being a try-out script.
I would think they might use actual excerpts from the real script, but I could be wrong on that.
Even still, I would be very much surprised if a script could be written in such a way that the lead actor - even if just reading the lines a bit at a time for the first time (which I can't ever see being done for a movie) - would not catch any gist of what the movie was about and what its general attitude was fairly early on. If it's anything like coherent, I still think Nip will be able to generally put it together.
