Long time no post...

One has to appreciate Hortense's ability to have a sense of humor about her situation. It's already been pointed out in the comic, but it again seems her hyper-feminism stems partly from the fact that she feels to need to affirm to the rest of the world that she is indeed, female. Or it might be more that she's offended by the whole system that she can't fit into and would rather it go away :-? /psychoanalysis.

I can relate the that in a way. My wife when we would go out duck hunting together and she would be dressed up in camo shirt, coat, hat and chest waders, she always wore her diamond ear rings so people would know she was a girl. :D

Or like the women who dress like tramps to make sure people know they are women, then get upset when people stare and gawk.

Hortense doesn't wear wigs that look natural, since they won't look natural on her, anyway. So, she gets wigs that she can have fun with. That express her individuality and personality in her own unique appearance. Which Thelma describes as, "of a lampshade in a brothel?"

In other words, camp. Hortense may be defeating her purpose. :)

Could be. That last panel makes me think of Wile E. Coyote trying to pass himself off as a schoolgirl.

I thought it was a nice tribute to Phyllis Diller - a great comedianne and one of my favorites. She took self-deprecating humour to a whole new level.

(Kinda what I might envision Solidus in drag to look like ...)

The reference to "of a lampshade in a brothel" is an allusion to her autobiography, Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse. I haven't read it yet but it is in my pile to get to one of these days.

Bah you would love to see that, freak.

If she was going for fake, the Dolly Parton look would have been a much better fashion choice than Phyllis Diller. I guess the shopping trip was hair raising enough without having falsies to contend with.

Gotta love that character. I mean, cold-blooded, scaly, breast-less -- RH could not have come up with a better anthropomorphic metaphor for your average feminist. 8)

ah, cold blooded, tough skin, no overbearing physical features, and she's not some wishywashy kinda gal, she knows what she wants and what she doesn't want, I knew there was a reason why I liked her...

The one that implies there's nothing wrong with men that a good castration couldn't fix? :D Yeah, she is sending out something along those lines...

naahh, she just needs to find the right one, like everyone else.

someone bullheaded and stubborn, that won't leave her alone for longer then 48 hours and yet is too much a massocist and a sweetheart to get a restraining order, but he's also gotta keep his head and know when enough is enough and when to try harder and know when she is having a bad day.

don't know anyone like that but that's who I think she could use.
