Thing is, she doesn't want to empty the can in his direction. That's an enclosed space, so -that- much mace would get into -everyone's- eyes. Just a quick squirt will do fine... you think Gilly's gonna do anything but scream like a cheerleader at the first shot?

I can speak from experience.....I had to get maced for a protective team to understand the symptoms and how to deal with them. I took a straight shot in the face for the full effect... ...NOT FUN.....got it cleaned off for the most part and then had to be enveloped in a cloud of "pepper-fog" which is essentially Mace turned into a smoke just like a mosquito fogger for crowd control and "area denial"......THAT raises hell with your eyes, nose, lungs, and skin all over. :x :x

So.....YEAH.....I want Gilly maced.....and maced GOOD!!! And at that range (4-6in) Zelda can nail 'im to the floor with one quick shot. :o

PLEASE Ralph.....let her do it!!!!

long ago, I went to a Toys R Us... as I was crossing the parking lot I heard a faint hissing noise. I looked down and there was a tiny canister someone's tire had half crushed. curious I picked it up. it said PEPPER SPRAY on the side. :o

Hastily I dropped the can, wiped my hands on my jeans, and went inside.

As I was looking about inside at the video game displays, I rubbed the itchy underside of my nose with my finger. My nose stopped itching, and started burning. I rubbed some more...
Within seconds my face was in FLAMES. :o Thankfully I knew where the bathrooms were--- I yowled and ran for the men's room, literally blind, my arms out before me, stumbling over my own feet in my haste... I spent close to 15 minutes in the bathroom, groaning and howling, sloshing water on my face and eyes.... the staff probably thought I was on drugs or something.
"What was that popping noise ?"
"A paradigm shifting without a clutch."

And then you have the odd individual who is relatively immune to mace and pepper spray - a good reason never to rely on them as your only means of self defense.

I was in downtown Seattle during the WTO fracas. Even though I never got any closer than four blocks, my eyes were stinging like crazy and I felt like someone had stuffed hot peppers up my nose.

Sounds like you were getting a whiff or two of "Pepper Fog."

There were two versions of tear gas that soon got collectively if incorrectly called "Mace". CS...Orthochlorobenzylmalononitrile, (the original "Mace") and CN...Orthochlorophenone.....(Mace II)

Of the two, CN was most aggressive on the eyes and even in low concentrations, sometimes caused actual damage. It was also proven that in higher concentrations to trigger anaphylactic reactions. It's pretty much been dropped from use civilian use.

After oleo-capsicum (OC), a concentrated extract of cayenne pepper, was shown to not only be faster acting, but also dissipated more quickly and had almost non-existant propensity for physical injury, it was adopted for widespread use and has pretty much replaced CS and CN in all but military applications. To my knowledge, there is only one incident of someone nearly dying from pepper spray, and that person had a severe allergy to.....you guessed it, cayenne pepper. CS is still sometimes used in gas grenades for large scale riot control, and that may what MSD22000 got a whiff of. Most metro police depts. are now opting for the Pepper Fogger which is little more than a model airplane pulse jet engine that feeds OC into the superhot exhaust stream and comes out as a thick white smoke......even a minute dose will cause a reaction in most people.

And it was this that I was sprayed with that I erroneously referred to as Mace in my earlier post.

I was climbing around in the attic at work, pulling wires... when the pepper spray canister I used to wear on my belt snagged on a joist and let loose a nice mist of spray...

Y'know? Climbing through an attic can be a real adventure when you can't see where you're going, can't hurry or you'll fall, and are having a little trouble breathing.

Pepper spray - it's not just for tacos any more.

Funny you should mention Taco's........If you think I'm a bit deranged (can't imagine why  ), I've got a friend from south Texas who makes me look positively well adjusted. 8)

He's got a recipe for what he calls his "Super Nova-Thermonuclear Fireball Chili" that includes....I sh*t thee not....a couple of healthy squirts of Pepper Spray in the pot while it's cooking!!! :o :o :o

Shyal Malkes....I may drink coffee that can be used to strip paint or stain and dye concrete, but I will NOT eat this stuff!! I do have certain limits that I won't exceed.......and this is one of them. Eating Bob's chili isn't a dining experience.....it's an attempt at self immolation....from the inside! :P

What's funny is to watch Bob eat a bowl of his chili.......his shaved head turns into a sprinkler with the sweat just popping off......he'll eat 3 bowls, his shirt will be soaked, he'll drink a glass of ice tea, and then dare anyone to match or beat him.......no one's gotten past 1 bowl.....and most don't get that far.....3-4 bites usually. Bob can eat Jalapeno, habanera and Chinese orange peppers like I eat sweet Gerkin pickles.......it's unbelievable.

I honestly think if he got sprayed with pepper gas, it'd just pi$$ 'im off or else he'd take the can and use it as breath spray......now wouldn't THAT just freak out whoever sprayed him?? :o :o :o :D

Ohhhh yeah......I've got some SERIOUSLY STRANGE friends........maybe that's why I feel so "at home" here on these forums......I'm in GREAT company

Y'know... I remember a scene once from a movie. I think it was "Under Siege 2", with that one guy who's supposedly a cook... and can kick @$$ and take names like nobody's business. Can't really remember his name.

Anyway, in the second movie, this ex-military guy ('cause everybody knows they're psychological maniacs just a hair away from turning into terrorists  well, everybody in Hollywood), I think does something to the good guy's niece or daughter, and she sprays him with pepper spray. He grabs the can and uses it as a breath freshener while she watches. :o I can definitely believe your friend could do that. I've already seen it, even if it wasn't real.

I wasn't scared, but that definitely grabbed my attention real quick. Maybe next time she'll have better bad guy repellent, courtesy of Smith & Wesson.
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

From Lansing, Michigan It's Steven Segal.

The star was Steven Segall and his character was "K.C. Ryback".....and I loved the line when he kills the bad guy...: "NOBODY beats me in the kitchen!" The bad guy was played by Everett McGill.

Yes, and he made the comment that the diluted crap on the market wouldn't do much more than "clear out your sinuses" as he sprayed it in his mouth.....I did get a chuckle out of that. Now if that had been actual CS aerosol.....REAL "Mace" the scene would have been even more intense....ie THAT is one really TOUGH dude!! :o And up until recently, he was actually stating a fact.....that the strength of what you could buy at Wally World and what was available at say a police supply store, was dramatically diluted......once again the "National Nannys" didn't want the great unwashed public to have access to something as powerful as the police.....they didn't want it to be too effective!

Thankfully that piece of abject stupidity has been recinded and not only can you get full strength OC, you can now even buy a Taser....the same model as that used by the police.

In accuality, there are people that can take a full in the face blast of OC with very little effect, but those folks are about 1 in 150. Most everybody else stops fighting and is far more interested in stopping the burning of their eyes and nose.
