Nah.....Pa's just a little absent minded. Y'know like lightin' his pipe immediately after wiping hisself down with a kerosene soaked rag to get rid of the flea infestation.

FWOOOOSH!!!! :o

Let's just hope Nip, the Fire Chief, isn't called in to put out the blaze...

This reminded me of a link Scott Kellogg posted in the forum for his webcomic:

(scientists playing with LOX and a charcoal grill)

:o
When trouble arises and things look bad, there's always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is insane.

Holy Smoke! (there, someone said it)

I've been trying to find the videos of that LOX-grill experiment but it had been taken down. At least the missle silo tour is still up.

I got the biggest laugh from Dave Barry's description of this.

He said it was like having a room full of 15 million Labrador Retrievers, and tossing a squirrel in.

I LOVE playing with LOX....and yes...one charcoal brickette pre-soaked in LOX goes off with the MOST SATISFACTORY explosion when tossed in a fire. Actually it was tossed thru the flames way above the actual fire pit. We didn't want to scatter the burning logs all over the site.

Still, the flash and boooom scare the crap :o out of a LOT of folks who weren't expecting it. hee hee hee hee!!!

If you want to see a REALLY IMPRESSIVE explosion try throwing a one quart glass Thermos bottle liner filled with LOX onto ground that has been soaked in jet fuel, avaiation gas and whatever else the air base fire dept has used to practice with. You throw it in a high arc so that it comes down and shatters in the center of the burn pit........SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT!!!!! I got the chance to do just this for a demonstration of how dangerous LOX can be.

<sigh> Why is it only fun if it's dangerous?

Fun with LOX

Post by Sharuuk »

One thing about the thermos liner full of LOX in the burn pit. No source of ignition is needed. The ground is so saturated with petroleum distillates that when the LOX hits it, the reaction is hypergolic meaning that ignition occurs upon contact with each other. :o So there was no fire in the pit until the LOX hit the ground......and then it was beautiful!

AHHHH.....such wonderful memories.

I would hate to be the insurance agent for that family.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

I don't think they can GET insurance! :D

Insurance agent: "And the name is...Todd? From Malarkey County?"
"Forget it, we aren't insuring you."

Pa Todd: "And I though Lloyd's of London would insure us..."

There are quite a few occupations that the insurance companies will refuse to insure.

Divers, Steeplejacks, Iron or Steel construction workers, Hazardous materials truck drivers, Aircraft pilots/instructors/stewards/stewardesses, Jockey/harness drivers, Air traffic controllers, Martial arts instructors, Armed forces personnel, Night watchmen, Oil, Natural Gas industry: all offshore, Power line installers/ repairers, Professional athletes, Carnival, circus employees/performers/rodeo performers, Drivers of: ambulances, tow trucks, rescue vehicles, long distance trailer trucks, logging trucks, armored trucks, taxis or limousine drivers/owners, Stunt workers, Fish hatchery or fish processing/packing workers, Fishermen, Trappers/hunters.

I suspect there are a lot more.

[quote="Squeaky Bunny"] Armed forces personnel[quote]

Technically its illeagle to do this but that dosen't stop them (a law saying those serving the country are to be denied no services based solely on the fact that of that service) but it happens, sooo thats why the Pentagon came up with its own life insurence plan.

Granted, it bites big time because its managed by the same big life insurence firms that deny coverage to begin with... ahhh 'congressionally mandated outsourcing' at its best.

Government insurance

Post by Squirrelly61104 »

Excuse me, Mr. Todd? This is Acme insurance. I have the quote for your insurance needs.
Quote "Bwa-ha ha ha haaaa haaaah!" end quote.
This goes on for about seventeen more pages, then the agent doing your estimate keeled over from lack of oxygen. Thank you for considering Acme, and don't ever call us again.
When I left the navy, I was offered a 'deal' by the military. To help outgoing personnell, the government had worked out an arrangement with a major health insurance company. Veterans could get short term health insurance to carry them over until their civilian insurance kicked in.
I took the time to phone around and compare prices.
Mind you, this was back in the early '90s, but the price for the government offered insurance was absurdly higher than the same insurance available commercially. (both were bad, though)

Our government loooves it's veterans.
At least around election time.
Both sides.

I refer you to Kiplings 'Tommy'
You can fool some of the people all of the time
And all of the people some of the time
But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
