OK, so what's up with all these people bailing on the couple to be? I'm thinking it might have something to do with a certain pyromaniac dynamite happy fox. Do the insurance companies have a 'no Malarkey county' clause in their coverage?

Maybe a tip to the local newspaper and the Better Business Bureau would be in order, and those people would get what they deserve.

Now I wonder if they're going to have to find help from the locals. It should be cheaper, I guess.

Speaking of cheap, I recently found out that in Mexico, a wedding, with banquet, band, and honeymoon *that is not during the summer or holidays* has a *minimum* cost of US $12,000.

It also looks as if a particular minister hasn't given comprehensive teachings concerning tithes and offerings.

Looks like the only option they have is to have the wedding outdoors or just bail out on Malarkey County.

If I remember correctly the Groom is an ex-Marine. If so, wouldn't worry too much, he has the skills to see that the operation is successfully completed, despite hiccups in the logistics.

As for tithe's and offerings:
Almost every church that is around long enough goes through one or more remodeling, expansion, or relocation phases. They may have just out-grown the persons house they were meeting in. As long as you make sure that the work crews put up the plastic before bad weather, the congration can work with the temporary absence of roof.

The windows seem to have undamaged glass.

There is no debri or clutter on the floor.

The support beams for the roof appear to be clean and unfinished, as opposed to damaged or old.

As I would expect the entire framework to be in place before the siding was put on the walls, I would say this is a renovation project rather than a new building.

One week to go before the Wedding date.

The Photographer bailed.

The Florist refuses to travel to Malarkey County.

The Caterer no longer available.

Half of the Band down with the flu.

No reservation and an extra out-of-state surcharge...

Unquestionably a wedding disaster of epic proportions.

I'm sure that there are plenty of very nice wildflowers around, and there must be residents with gardens full of "not-so-wild" flowers that they would be overjoyed to display (flaunt?) at a wedding.

My apologies for misinterpreting the setting on the last panel. Kind of a reflex reaction with the sad state of some churches we have seen down here (reflecting the state of the members' dedication).

I'll also have to plea guilty to being influenced by the aftermath of Hurricane Isidore. Our church is in an open area outside the city limits, and about 1/6 of the roof was blown off by Isidore, not to mention a small warehouse, a kitchenette, and one wall off an unfinished classroom. Yes, the repairs to the roof are done, and we're redoing the other stuff, again, thanks to volunteer work and tithes and offerings.


So, if the church is being remodeled, with no chance of it being completed in one week, maybe it's time to look to other places for the ceremony.

So it's safe to assume that neither family of the bride or groom are helping in ANY of the wedding costs?

Well, an open air wedding would be great for pictures. ^^

And don't forget, the single women of the county made great meals for me the first time I was there, so I'm hoping they'll pitch in for the wedding.

My nephew is wandering around Kuwait about now, looking for a decent pizza place or something. I'm setting aside a six-pack of my home-brewed Porter ale for his return.

Glad to be here. And to think I read the comic for a good long time before I even found (stopped being lazy and clicked the button) the fourm here. ^^;

And no, I'm not really getting married. This storyline is just something for fun. I loved the first time Bo visited the Todds and everyone, and I wanted a second go at it, and having my character Jess married to my original version of Kiana, I descided that having Bo and Jess get married in the comic would be fitting. An agreement and exchange of funds later, the story is ready to be made ^^
