Jan 17, 2003: Fun With Fawn! :)

Okay, what's she up to? :o

Building a giant magical anime robot? :D

I cheated. I went to the archives and saw at the bottom that Incense and Powertrains reads: "Where Fawn's new job gets away from her, forcing the skies above Pervis Gap to become filled with flying sorcerers and other unidentified flying objects."

Leads me to believe a catapult, an artificial dragon that takes off on its own sans controller, or an antigrav unit that runs on alchemy... though the phrase "flying sorcerers" makes me hope Portia isn't afraid of heights ;)

Am I close, Matt? I seem to be good at divining what you have in mind...

Y'know, I agonized over whether I should put anything in the Archive section yet, for just these reasons. I'm afraid I may be tipping my cards.

But that's all you'll get out of me right now!

Key #1 to successful webcomic development: How to avoid unnecessary foreshadowing by learning the mistakes of others.

If you ever find a "Plot that will get a name in a few days" in my comic, Matt, it's all an important lesson I learned from you. Thankee. :-)

You're welcome, Cap'n! Remember, you can never be a complete failure, since you can always serve as a negative example.

Unfortunately, this seems to be my turn....

Small request:

I mean no offence, but In the future, I would appreciate it if
we could stick to internet conventions and slap a big old
"SPOILER" in the subject line or at the top of a reply
in such cases in the future? Thanks. :)

BTW, is it just me, or does Fubaar sound like he's from
Ancient Sparta or something?

Knowing Matt's interest in history and Government, I really
wouldn't be too surprised. :D

D'OH!

Sorry, Scott! I just shouldn't have said anything, actually, and let you all agonize over it. Believe me, I'm learning my lessons here.

Good catch. That's actually a quote from Plato's Republic. Not the one I was originally going to use, since it turned out that the speech bubble was too small, but from the same section of the book:
http://plato.evansville.edu/texts/jowett/republic33.htm
It's somewhere on that page; I can't exactly remember where.

Missing comic for 22 Dec

Ah, computer bliss! As you all have no doubt noticed, KeenSpace seems to have blarged today. So, I give you today's strip:

And I just realized that all these strips have been chopped off on the right side! And this one has the wrong date!

Who's in charge of quality control here, anyway?!

[edit #2]I just realized what I'd done. Even though I draw the strip at 10 inches wide, after it's inked and cropped out of the page it's generally a little bigger than 10 inches. I'd forgotten to resize it before copying and pasting it into the strip template. But I also fixed some coloring and editing errors, and put the correct date up.[/edit #2]

Yay! Thanks! :D

Poor Portia, she's been crying "Wolf!" er... "Deer!"

(Though, somehow, I don't think that exactly strikes terror in
the heart of Yerzle...)

And, as long as we're dealing with Keenspace being down....

Prepare for the shameless plug!

No problem! I just wish I'd been able to get it up before 8PM. I'll have to email Friday's strip to work, just in case this happens again.

No. No, it doesn't. :)

Well, until Keenspace gets not-urpy, I suppose this'll do. :-)

Methinks Portia's just a bit paranoid. So Fawn's making a loud, crashing thing. Where's the harm in that? :-)

Just speculating:

Well, this could be interesting. :)

After all, if Fawn is building something mechanical in a world where
magic works...

Well, she could build something much more useful than your
average medieval siege engine.

Who knows? Maybe she's building a horseless carriage or something?
A Medieval Fanasty world with cars? Boy! This could get weird in
a hurry! :D

Strip for 24 Dec

Well, nothing's changed with KeenSpace (except now they've managed to get the servers working enough to put up a reason for the downtime), so here's Friday's strip:

Hee!

Science as Black Magic! :D

BTW, hope you don't mind, but I just posted the links to those
2 strips over in the Freefall forum, under the topic of "How do deal
with Freefall withdrawal"

Holy cow! Thanks, Scott! Now if only Keenspace would cooperate and start up again, then all those new readers you may potentially be directing my way would have something besides those two strips to read!

I've never ventured into the really busy forums, except to lurk, and then only rarely. I can never seem to keep up with people who don't have jobs! ;-)

And I'll leave off commenting on anything else you said until more strips are up. (You can't say I don't learn my lessons!)

*looks around*...

Matt, you gonna post today's strip here? :D

See how you are? What are you doing up at 6:45, anyway?

At least the sites are up! Now, if they'd only give the auto-updater a good, swift kick!

Getting ready to face the day with a dose of comics, what else? :D

No kidding. I've tried logging into keenspace to do a manual site update
but it won't let me log in. It let's me FTP in to put more strips in the
queue, but not log in. Weird. Still, it's progress! Hope we'll be back to
normal soon!

So Yertz has no real problem with this, but Portia does? Conflict of interest involving their professions, then?

And come on, who ISN'T up around 6:45am? That's roughly the time I'm getting ready to go to bed, though... :-)

0645? I'm just getting ready to leave my post at that time.

Conflict of personal interest, perhaps? The current relationship... quadrangle is a bit of a complicator to the current development.
