Ghost World = good movie

Bleak but darkly humorous.It was also interesting to see after reading the Daniel Clowes comic, since a lot was changed (but Clowes was coauthor of the movie script).------------------

I'd have to go to Atlanta to see it <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/frown.gif">Austin was good for those arty movies. Athens, alas, doesn't seem to have a first run art house. The University is just getting Memento (no I haven't seen it, stop beating me!)

I *still* haven't seen Memento -- and have somehow managed to know nothing about it!I suspect I'll see it and smack myself in the head over all the referrences I've missed, however.I liked Ghost World as well. The Mullet-man character was scary, though -- he (or his twin) lived where I grew up. *shudder*So...You think the movie was rife with metaphor and subtext? I do, but maybe I'm just a freak.------------------

The ending of which movie? I'll assume you mean Memento. It's a terrific ending, and certainly does cause you to rethink all that's gone before (or after, more accurately, heh). By the way I believe Teddy was basically telling the truth at the end. And the movie rewards a second viewing very much.------------------

I took it as somewhat ambiguous, either suggesting she literally killed herself, or else that she had effectively given up and didn't care any more and was going to just go through the motions of life from there on.------------------

Well, yeah, but either way t was highly metaphoric -- none of the rest of the movie *seemed* highly metaphoric, or metaphoric at all. Hence, my desire to reevaluate from square one. Of course, I haven't been able to re-view it...------------------

Ah yes, I think I see what you mean.The old man waiting for the bus seemed somewhat metaphoric to me, so perhaps it's not coincidence that the ending meshed with that.I have considered seeing it a second time, but haven't yet.I recommend the book too if you haven't read it yet. It's really quite different from the movie in many ways. E.g. the ending. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"> The book spends more time with the 2 girls' friendship, and a LOT less with the Steve Buscemi character...------------------
