Have you ever heard of this magazine, Russ? It's pretty cool.
------------------

I have not heard of Video Watchdog. I'll take a look for it. Is it a general film magazine or is it focused on videos? It is unclear how useful it will be for me since I don't actually watch videos. Um, nor do I own a watchdog.
------------------

It specifically focuses on videos. I recommend it though because it has exceptional coverage of cult films. The first ish I ever picked up had a feature on the Evil Dead series, including an excerpt from a (not yet published) book about the making of the series, and a comparison of the four different available cuts of Army of Darkness: the theatrical version; "Captain Supermarket: Evil Dead 3", the Japanese Laserdisc; the TV edit (which has more of the love scene than the theatrical!); and the director's cut, which at the time the article was written was only available as a bootleg. It also has a column on soundtracks--the latest installment talks about Rhino's "Brain in a Box" boxed set, a 5-CD set of science fiction related music.
------------------

I have to second Gwalla on this one, Video watchdog tells you everything you need to know when you're collecting movies.
What Gwalla says about it's coverage of Army of Darkness goes for many other movies too. Its reviews dig into subjects such as image and sound quality. Prior to PBS re-releasing the classic T.V. movie version of The Lathe of Heaven, VW gave extensive coverage to why it had not been seen since the early 80's and the history of the production.
Other magazines may be more 'content' orientated, ie focusing on what the films are about or the stars, VW focuses on the important matter of the sound and imge itself. Damn good magazine.
