If you like film noir/mysteries or nonstandard storytelling technique like watching a logic puzzle unfold (our main character has no short term memory (cf. Gene Wolfe's Soldier in the Mist) so keeps obsessive notes and polaroid photos to try to remember what's going on as he tries to solve a mystery, and furthermore the events are told in reverse chronological order for the most part), definitely check out this movie, which is a neat device that works well with the protagonist's "condition"... I quite enjoyed it.
Cool soundtrack too, a very moody score.
BTW it has Carrie-Anne Moss, who I guess most people know from The Matrix. She was also in Chocolat, another great movie. But Memento is Guy Pearce's show all the way, and he's great. Joe Pantoliano (also from Matrix) is also good.
------------------

Hmm, it might still just be in major areas, I'm not sure.
BTW the Onion (http://www.theonion.com) has a very positive review of it in their cinema section, I just noticed. And I found ifilm.com has the first 8 minutes of the movie online if you have a fast connection and want a taste of it with blurrylooking video.

------------------

I believe that it was released in the UK first, and received great reviews there. The official site is pretty cool, gives you an idea of what the film will be like.

Hmm, well I won't buy the soundtrack just yet since it doesn't seem to exist in stores. So I got a new CD by Gwenmars (whom I've never heard of) since it sounded cool at the listening station and was on sale and was compared to My Bloody Valentine.
------------------

I noticed just now that Tycho gushed about it when I checked PA. Oddly, I was just about to email him and recommend it, when I thought "Hmm, check the site in case he mentioned it in the latest news and I look silly", and sure enough... eerie!
Speaking of Memento, uh, well you'll see real soon...
------------------

Took a while to load... Weird (both time and graphic) I hope it doesn't ruin the movie (said as if I believed I might see it. The fool!)
I'm certainly having a Merry Un-WS Day!

Yeah, don't you just hate it when people spoil the ending for you?

------------------

Thanks! I think it's among the weirder of my series (but I'm probably unable to judge that accurately...)
I saw Memento a second time yesterday and it was quite cool the second time. A lot of subtle dialog and visual things that I didn't fully grok the first time. Clever script.
Now if they'd just release the damn soundtrack. Boy I liked that gloomy music.
------------------

Hey, the Memento soundtrack is finally out!
Unfortunately it includes about a half-dozen snippets of dialog from the movie at the start of some tracks (before the music plays), which I find annoying on a soundtrack CD. But the score is cool.
------------------

Haven't yet seen Moulin Rouge but definitely intend to. I really liked Romeo+Juliet.
Yes, do see Memento, it's one of the coolest most interesting movies I've seen in a while. Just don't expect it to have anything to do with Shakespeare, 'cause it doesn't.
Re: ecartoonists discussion: thanks! Such discussions always impress upon me the amazing diversity of human opinion... I can't imagine being 25 years old and claiming to have never uttered a "bad word" and taking great pride in this fact. What's the big deal with "bad" words? To me that would be like taking pride that I've never uttered the word "rutabaga"... like, so what?
------------------

Now that I am freed of moderator duties on the KSCritics list thanks to Barney taking over, I hope to have the time/energy to do more critiques!
------------------
