Dude, (oh my god here it comes... we're talking in 80's now!!!!!!) "It's The End of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by R.E.M. WAS an 80's song. The album "R.E.M./Allied Document No. 5" came out in 1987.
So there. And Steve knows, like a good little boy, never to question my R.E.M. knowledge. I have 21 R.E.M. CD's and I'm not afraid to use them.
nah, you're right though. Live IS an f-ing cool band. Dude, we saw them and Counting Crows in concert and they rocked. Steve, I think, is referring mostly to crap like Britney Spears (note to self: start a thread about how much I hate Britney Spears) and Nelly and all that conformist bull****. NOT cool stuff like J-pop. (sigh... still want the Bubblegum Crisis Complete Vocal Collection Vol. 1.) We all have discriminating music taste. Unfortunately, we are in a .00005% minority of the American population.

Of course he's lost the spotlight, but we are talking about the 80's, right? Besides, I still can Bop my head to the beat of his greatest hits. Who knows what he's up to now. Last I heard, he was mixing beef at a Taco Bell. OK, so I never heard that.

The 80's seems to be sort of a theme here, so I figgered I'd start a thread for it. Everyone give me your three FAVORITE things from the 80's. It can be food, TV, music, anything. It can be things you liked now and things you liked as a kid. Actually, give me SIX things - three 80's things you liked now, and three you remember being into as a kid. They can overlap too.
Elaine is counting on you!!! And who knows, maybe this wonderful decade will be mentioned more in Steverino!
My three favorite 80's things NOW:
1. The British pop group XTC
2. Crimped hair
3. Bubblegum Crisis!!!!!
My three favorite 80's things as a kid:
1. My Little Pony (shut up)
2. You Can't Do That On Television (wait, that's one of my favorite things NOW, too!)
3. The Vapors' "Turning Japanese" (Yeah, my parents used to play it a lot when I was in the living room chilling and playing with Legos.)
GO!

------------------

When I was a kid, my three favorite things about the eighties were:

Neon. Everything was neon. I had neon shoelaces, neon crayons, neon t-shirts... if I could have gotten neon bath water, I probably would have. Who would have known one little element could do so much?

Transformers. Come on, everybody liked the Transformers as a kid.

You Can't Do That On Television, of course. ;>

Currently, my favorite three are:

Transformers. ;> "WHY WON'T THIS TRANSFORM?!?"

Bubblegum Crisis.

You Can't Do That On Television.

The lesson is: some things just never change.

Cool 80's as a kid:
1. GI Joe!!!
2. The positivity... maybe it's just cause I was still young, but everything seemed alot less cynical back then.
3. Maddonna. Let's face it, 80's madonna was phat! Music, personality, everything! She was a cool G.
Cool 80's now:
1. Jean jackets... yeah some poeple still wear them, but you're kidding yourselves. Actually, 80's fashion in general is pretty cool.
2. The music is still better than anything today!
3. The vocab! We need more gnarly's and radicals! Actually, now that I think about it, we don't.
80's rock!!
~Steve

He put out an album recently??? The last one Iremember was HISstory, or whatever. (also please note that I have never, once in my 18 years, followed current music trends, so perhaps that's why.)
------------------

That's the last album I remember him putting out, too... it had a couple decent songs on it, but overall was sort of overblown. Although he did an excellent job of marketing HISstory, so the black man who is even whiter than I am deserves some credit for that. ;>

Uh-oh. If things continue at this rate, we're going to be on a disco thread, and that's the scariest thing I've heard all day. Back to the 80's.
I remember video games back in the 80's. Okay, yeah, so some of them were absolute crap, and none of them had the epic storylines of modern games... but grommit, they were *fun*. Like Blaster Master. I clocked so many hours to that game, and I still couldn't get that far in it. Part of the problem with modern consoles is that they've lost some of the fun factor. A shame, it is...
