Good start on redesign. I like the new colour scheme better, especially in the Askre's Lair stories section (red text on black didn't work for me).
The link image to the stories area is a little obscure. If that was purposeful, ignore me.
You can blame me partially for the grey background in Askre's Lair, Lord Emsworth. I provided some sample HTML that Askre has used to his advantage in revamping. Of course, my choices tend more to pastels for backgrounds and black for text. (Think of grey as a pastel shade of black.)
It may be my imagination but things seem spread out a lot, with nothing really organising the elements on a page.
Establishing some edges that run down and across the page give a feeling of organisation. You can try not centering anything. That's gives a firm left edge. There are tricks you can do with TABLEs or stylesheets that can pull content back from the edge of the browser window.
The image links for various areas are all well done. Keeping them the same height allows them to align themselves. (Except for the stories link. It's out of proportion with the rest. It would work on a line by itself.)
And for a final minor nitpick, your "fanfiction" area currently contains fanART not fiction. I'm pretty sure Vince wouldn't mind if you use "Reader submissions" which covers anything people might want to send you.
Just my C$0.05. I'm enjoying the cat and dog show, so it doesn't matter a whole lot what the site itself looks like.
Peace,
Tim Bram.
