How to do a forum-based Role-Play. [OOC] and [RP]

*g* One of the fun things coming soon. For now, let one of us start one. Later, when I think we've all got the hang of it, we'll open it up to anyone.

Anyone can participate. A thread will appear with a catchy title and [RP] (for Role-Play) following it. This is a Role-Play thread.

Anything posted in an RP thread is assumed to be In Character. If comments are required out-of-character, please note them with OOC.

The originator of the thread is the GM, and makes final decisions and tells people what's going on.

Post actions as well as words. If your actions affect another player, post it as an <i>attempt</i> -- it may not work, either because of the other character's defences or the GM's intervention.

PDI Role-Play is going to be more fun than anything else, so relax and have a good time. To start us off, I think we should do a test run in this thread. Everything after the line is an [RP] thead.

*The Woofaboomus steps into the Hall as the new arrivals make themselves comfortable in rows of folding chairs. When they have settled in a bit (though some late arrivals are likely), he speaks*

"Greetings, new students and faculty at the Psychic Dyslexia Institute! I am the Woofaboomus, I am the acting Dean of Students this term. I'd like to welcome you all and help you make your arrival as comfortable as possible. You'll find refreshments at the back of the room, coffee, TimTams, the like. Please help yourselves. Before I begin, I'd like the new arrivals who are already here to introduce themselves."

((OOC: This is where each of you enter, sit, listen and introduce yourselves. Go on, it's easy))

*Volair stands up.*
"Uh, hello. I'm here because the S.A.G. wanted a feild researcher involved with the P.D.I. Everyone, just pretend I'm not here. The S.A.G. budget doesn't allow for neuralizers, so when bizarre things happen, you'll just have to forget them on your own."

*Volair sits down.*

[Saski Berth]

*Saski Stands up*
"I'm here to learn new stuff that I wouldn't have though of before this class"

I then sit down, carefully pre-arrangeing my 4 tails, so as not to tangle them, or get them trod on by anyone else.

*Sharky stands up, knocking over chair. Replaces chair*

"Eheh. Sorry. Nervous." *Clears throat, grins* "Hey. I'm Sharky. Wicked nice meeting you all. I'm hoping this year to conquer my psychic dyslexia ONCE AND FOR ALL! ...or at least turn it into something I can charge admission to....hm." *Nods to everyone, sits down*

[Talbon]

Talbon walks in, late as usual and munching on a donut as the crumbs fly from between his chomping teeth the white wolf grins broadly at Woofaboomus. "Heya Dean, started already eh?" He waves to the collected kids, splattering ones to close to him with jelly filling goodness. "Hi kids, I'm the RA for the dorms. If you want form clubs, participate in sporting events or need suggestions on a kegger. You'll want to talk to me."

[Captain apathy]

A previously inconspicous hare stands up from somewhere in the middle.

'Hi! My name is Captain Apathy, It's slovak, don't ask, And i'd like to know the policies on student sex and drug use'

he sits down before someone can throw something at him.

[Talbon]

Talbon grins across at Captain Apathy. "Only if you brought enough for everyone Cap'n."

The wolf catches the sight of Woofaboomus out of the corner of his eye and gives a slight cough. "Kidding aside we expect students and faculty to adhere to the same standards they would set before themselves at any place of learning."

[Dalenna]

A strange-looking young girl that seems to be part eagle and part lion stands up and blushes.

"Uh.. sir... no disrespect meant, but...at my old school, that sort of <i>was</i> normal... anyway, I'm Chaly. I don't really know why I'm here, yet, except maybe for often-backfiring empathy abilities. Hopefully, though, I won't get shoved into a locker my first day here, or something."

She sits down again and continues turning red, unused to public speaking, and trying to hide her giddiness (mostly caused by being around goofy students).

[PDI]

Well, quite as promising group. Though why the Screen Actors' Guild sent a rep here is beyond me. *sips coffee and dodges Talbon's flying doughnut crumbs* Are there any questions from the group?

Good question.

Let me say this once: THIS IS NOT HOGWARTS. Neither is it Xavier's School. We're here to teach you. If you want to hide your powers, or dress in costumes and fight crime -- that's none of our business.

Which is not to say that getting into trouble with the law won't get you in trouble with us -- same as if you are caught underage drinking. *shoots a look at Talbon*

[Saski Berth]

I say "Ah, good, and as for under-age drinking, you shouldn't worry about me, as I'm 32. I recently re-discovered my 'gift' and am now learning as much about it as possible." I then glance at Talbon, and mysteriously his donut changes to a jelly filled variety.

[PDI]

((OOC: it was already jelly-filled. TECHNICALLY this should be "attempt to change Talbon's doughnut" ... this is a minor one, though, and in the name of fun is okay. But "I turn Tlabon's blood to jelly" would be a BIG no-no))

While watching the students around me, my tails start twitching, in anticipation of what's going to be taught.

A rather aggrieved-looking black-and-blue striped tiger walks in, positively reeking of psi/mage energy. He leaps up onto a chair and sits down, and with a brief ripple in the timespace, returns to normal human form. He has a look of relief on his face as he sits back.

"My name's Jarech. You just saw why I'm here. Random omnimorphism is-" it broke off again as he looked around, and a very small white and black dragon was sitting on the chair, tapping his talons on the seat-cover in annoyance.

-very, very annoying. As you might notice. He concluded to himself as he sat back to listen and wait for his normal form to return.

[Dalenna]

Chaly squeaked and looked at the shape-changing... uh... whatever it was... sitting next to her chair, currently as a little black and white dragon. She then offered it a bit of beef jerky.

[Talbon]

Catches Woofaboomus's look, smiling around a large bite of his demolished donut the wolves eyes take on a look of such pure innocence it can't help but be fake.

Talbon swallows his bites, "Actually we have a few games where your gifts can be helpful, the traditionals of football, baseball and so on are played but we also have special game where use of any power is allowed so long as no one is hurt. That and the variety of fine traditions that have sprung up since the Institutes founding fifty years ago. Not the least of which is the rivalry between the four dorms and no, none of them are Syltherin, Gryfindor or anything else that would get us sued faster than a college student streaking across the courtyard. Nor will there be a sorting hat, there is however a cup and points."

[PDI]

And of course Talbon is well-versed in the legalities of campus streaking...

[Jarech]

The dragon lifted a scaly brow in an extremely sarcastic expression that spoke volumes at the offer of the jerky. Listening closely to what Talbon and Woofaboomus say, he blinks at both the reference to the unearthly abomination of Harry Potter and the reference to 'campus streaking.' At the last, he begins to chuckle, and as he does, his form returns to normal.

"Thank goodness." was his only comment, both about turning back and about the lack of Harry Potter cliches.

[Aeire]

*the door slammed open and a short red vixen scrambled into the room, shoving the door shut behind her, then turning and slowly taking in the rest of the students in the room*

"Oh! Uh...oh yeah. Hi. I'm Aeire." *She waved at the various members of the crowd, then slinked to a chair and plunked herself into it, still eyeing the door, and turned to stare at the Woofaboomus nervously.

"And I didn't do it. Whatever it was. I mean, uh...nothing. Just-nothing."

*And with that, she shut up.*
