I wasn't going to post anything. Really, I wasn't. I was just going to sit back and quietly enjoy reading your strip. It was the dragonfly in Sunday's strip that did it.
I could deal with stork-legged figures, spiral eyes and rivers of tears. I took the funky hair, cool sound/motion effects and nose-less blood drips with calm. But when you put the dragonfly up, well, I have just one thing to say...
...
...
...
...
THANK YOU!!!
That is one of my oldest, most favored, and least used site-gags. I haven't seen anyone use that in a while. Most people prefer the strands-of-hair-out-of-place gag, or the shirt-off-one-shoulder gag.
However, if you ever have a cup of Fiber Noodles running a line of dots across the screen, I will be forced to give you the extra copies of City Hunter manga that are gathering dust on my bookshelf, complete with nosebleeding explosions that throw the characters backwards over their chairs.
Damn it, I nearly snorted my Barq's when I read your comic.
------------------

What you just went thru', scrubs: confusion, or sometimes embarrassment.
You know how sometimes people do that thing where they take their hand, pass it over their head in mid-air really fast and say "WOOSH!" simultaneously when they don't get something? ("That just totally went over my head!") The dragonfly can represent that. The anime City Hunter does that a lot.
(I know Monkie, a long sentence in here. Oh well. )

What I find funny is how the first real anime element in my strip (the hammer) was inspired by City Hunter, and the dragonfly was OBVIOUSLY also a trademark CH moment...
Heh. I can't believe just how much anime I have watched in the last six months -- I'm almost starting to think that I could count as an otaku...
*watches the end of Fairy Princess Ren as he types this, with all of Bastard to follow*
As for the noodles, Wapiko -- well, I only own one manga series (GREY), so you might find some noodles flying about soon enough!

The series that actually got me hooked on anime and manga is City Hunter. The artist/creator, Tsukasa Hojo (Hojo Tsukasa in english, I guess) is incredibly good. One of my prize books was an art book of his. Until it was "borrowed" by a friend who then moved to Texas. With my book!
Anyway, Ucchan is right, that's basically what it means, scrubbo. It can also be used in an instance when someone does something profoundly stupid, and there are just no words to be said. Instead of a minute of watching a single frame, they have a dragonfly, or a super-deformed bird, or a cup of Fiber Noodles (one of CH's sponsors) floating above the characters, leaving a trail of ellipses. Just to show the viewers that time is passing, and it is not a glitch in the tape.
If you have not watched City Hunter, I would strongly recommend it. The tv series was better than the movies, and the manga was better than the anime, but also more risqu
