Nadesico is a series that's filled with great laughs! Of course, with my sense of humour, I tend to laugh even at funerals...Oh, and at the bottom of my links pages are a few sites that you would be interested in. I second that motion. If it isn't subbed, I don't buy it. (My ONLY exception to this rule is Ranma 1/2, since VIZ dubbs are the only ones I can TOLERATE.) All hail subtitled anime.(hee HEE, "flubbed" ... I LIKE IT! <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/biggrin.gif">)YAY! I get to see Love Hina this Friday! I dunno what it is about, but someone in the Avalon forum recommended it. (Sorry, I forgot who it was!)

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Yeah, the dvds are both in japanese and english dub, complete with english subtitles. like most anime dvds sold in english speaking countries.This means you can watch the english dub with the english subtitles on if you want..this effect is funniest when watching sailor moon. because sailor moon is the worst thing ever to become representative of anime (or is it pokemon?) and it is one the consistently worst translated into dubbing.Oh, btw- anyone wanna buy the complete set of escaflowne on vhs? i'm going to put it up on ebay someday, but i really want to get the dvd. the entire set's only been watched 4 or 5 times through. ^^ Yes, it's very very very very good.

i'm hoping that these Escaflowne DVD's are subtitled, and not flubbed... err, i mean dubbed? <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/wink.gif">i only say that because i felt that the english dubs were really bad compared to the subs (i've seen both)...

That's the beauty of the DVD, it's both. (And you've got to love the Mononoke DVD: english dub, original track, literal translation, and english dub subtitles. Now all we need is Japanese for the hearing impaired down the right side.)And Ucchan, yes, dubs suck, but sometimes they are better than the subs. For instance, the subs for Lain were so damn poorly translated I was well and hopelessly lost trying to make any sense of them. (then again, that could just be because it *is* Lain after all...) In the end, I turned on the subs and listened to the dub (and laughed at some of the mistranslates and changes), then replayed the DVD in Japanese with subs. It gave me an excuse to watch it twice anyway <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif">.In fact, I still don't know what the heck most of the floating text and all that "prophecy" stuff actually meant. Meybe I should ask the Japanese exchange students across the hall to translate for me...(On a side note, I always thought the shrill female giggling in anime was a bit overdone. Okay, that HAS happened to me before, so I will grant you that.(And WHY is it that Princess Mononoke is ONLY available on DVD? *Sigh* <IMG SRC="http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/cwm2/sd1.gif"> )BTW Damonk, I saw the first two episodes of Love Hina, and I recommend it. And since you like Kare Kano, you might like Hana Yori Dango and Marmalade Boy. Shoujo Kakumei Utena (also known as Revolutionary Girl Utena) is also a well done piece of work.

Funny... I've never seen a single dub that's better than the subtitled edition. I've seen some flub-ups with subtitles (in the Bubblegum Crisis DVD collection, episode 5 has every sub come on about thirty seconds too early and leave within the same window), but never so bad that I'd prefer the dub.Never had any problem with Lain's subtitles. Then again, the series damn near makes sense to me halfway through it, so maybe that's part of the problem.

The original japanese voices are good, but the english actors quite possibly do a better job and seem more like their characters. Ah, but I've only seen the first 5 dvds... need to see the ending... must see the ending... It's driving me crazy! ------------------
