SPECTROBES ORIGINS.
Do not be fooled by NP's measly rating of 5.5. Every other critic on the net (Excluding Yahtzee for various reasons) gave it a solid score. Now, ratings are never a final answer, but I'll give you all my testimony.
I bought the first Spectrobes game going, "Wow, this might help my insatiable need for a monster-collecting game!" In short, it did. The fact that you had to WORK FOR YOUR MONSTERS (Literally, excavating good fossils SUCKS), along with creature designs that were totally Beyond the Impossible, made the game amazing. The story, however, not so much. Here's a synopsis.
Grant: Go to this planet.
Rallen: Okay
Jeena: OMG a distress signal
Rallen: We gotta help
Man: I am Aldous. These are Spectrobes. They kick Krawl ass.
Rallen: AWESOME
Aldous: Now go.
Grant: Come back Krawl are attacking
Rallen: Okay
[Insert Krawl kicking here]
Grant: They're still attacking, hit their weak point for massive damage.
Rallen: Okay
Krawl: RAWR
Rallen: *kicks ass*

Yeah, not phenomenal. Two of the greatest improvements to the game from Origins were graphics and story. The graphics, mainly, as you can now see your awesome Spectrobes in amazing 3-D. The Wii-ness really puts the right graphical touch on the game. The story also got a makeover, as we learn some Krawl origins and other stuff. The main distinguishing fact about Spectrobes is that the designs are so over the top that things don't make sense anymore. Here's an example.

It's actually pretty simple. You feed them minerals and make them fight. Nothing real complicated. The one thing I love best about the game is the battle system. It's fully real time, a departure from Pokemon, and there's some motion control bits thrown in to pull off special attacks. Long story short, Disney did...something good. I'm very, VERY surprised. God I love this game. Haven't finished it, though. I'm close, I know it.
XIV out.
What is the true path to victory? I say start with Flashman's stage.
