Specific Instructions please?

Post by Jakrummy »

I just recently joined ComicGenesis here, and just received my confirmation Monday. So I waited 24 hours after setting my password and all, but I can't seem to access my site. The e-mail I received gave me very vague instructions. If I understood them correctly, it told me to go here [link=http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080/ ... eb-ftp.cgi]This FTP thing.[/link] I've tried both my comic user and pass and my one for the forums. My forum username doesn't work instantly, so I figured I needed to use my webcomic username and password. But when I put that in, a page comes up saying:

Code: Select all

This webpage is not available
The webpage at http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080/cgi-bin/web-ftp.cgi/START?63171+ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error.
So I'm just wondering what I have to do, because I'd like to get my comic up and running ASAP.

have you tried to log into http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/quickadmin/ or http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/

the url you listed is the old ftp try this http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/net2ftp/index.php

and the username password combo for the ftp is the same as for your comic not your forum account.

its a way to manually update your comic. if you make changes to your web pages or added comics you can run an update. the new system update automatically now ever 24 hrs so its not as necessary anymore. but there are something you can only do through site admin. like adding a news box or banner.

Both http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/quickadmin/ and http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ get the same message.

and where do I get the stuff I need to sign in to the FTP client? Like, the FTP server and initial directory.

Sorry for the double post, but I just need to clear stuff up.

First of all, I was finally able to locate tutorials, which have helped me a little. I got a FTP client thing like it told me too. I got one that was supposedly good for beginners like myself. But I just end up getting extremely frustrated because I don't know how to work the stupid thing. I've googled tutorials for it, but the tutorials seem to be using a different program. I'm just very frustrated and confused. I got the idea of a webcomic a month ago, and I'm afraid the idea will die in my head if I don't get this up soon.

I could use a preference on which FTP thing to use, because mine is too confusing. This is basically all I'm asking for.

Don't worry just use a different site. My comic is currently up at drunkduck, smackjeeves, comic fury, facebook, and devaintart.

I use on called Rbrowser. It works okay.
http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/net2ftp/index.php this is a web based one that's easy to use.
Once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy.

the basics
First u need the password and user name u signed up with. Not the forum one.
Then login in. If using an FTP app. Make sure it's set to FTP. There are other settings.
There will be a few folders. One called public and One called workspace. Don't mess with the public folder or anything else that isn't in the wOrkspace folder.
Go into the work space folder. There you'll find the HTML pages. Daily Template and index template. You can down load those and edit them if you want to change them.
There's also a comic folder. That's where you put all your comics.
make sure comics are saved as. Yearmonthday.file. So say 20110507.jpg.
That's basically what you need to get a comic going. It will take 24 hrs to update manually so be patient.
