Two comics on one account?

Post by Nziz »

I've been doing based-on-life comics for fun, and posting them as extras in the art section of my official comic. Now it's gotten to the point where I draw more of those than I do regular pages. I'd like to set things up so people can read through them by clicking "Next," instead of going back to the art page between each one. Is this possible, or would it confuse the machinery? I suppose I could handmake a couple hundred html pages, but if there's an automated way to do it, then hooray!

Thanks in advance.

I think the CG system used to support this function by naming the comic images as firstcomic080630.jpg and the other as anothercomic080631.jpg but this featured is not used any more.

In theory, yes you can. But in order to do it, you would need to use the ***todays_notes*** tag to create a second navigation set next to the existing navigation buttons. This is probably more effort than it is worth.

The simplest way to do this would be to create a new comic account and move one set of comics onto the new comic account and leave the old one on the existing comic account.

If you don't want to do this, then the other option would be to have whichever one updates the most as the "real" comic on your comic account and move the others onto a separate page. As in, create a folder for the second comic in workspace/webpages and hand-code the comic pages for the second comic.

I don't think I explained that very well, but if that is the way you wanted to go, post here and I'll give you better instructions.

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. Starting a second account is tempting, but the second comic is kinda connected to the first, and I don't really want them completely separate. Sounds like hand-coding a second set of comic pages is the best way to go. It's probably less work than what I'm currently doing to post them on the art page.

So I would make a folder in the webcomics section, and put everything for the new comic in there? With no ***tags***, right?

As far as I can tell, this should work:

If you want the second comics to run like a regular webcomic (latest on the index, go back for older ones):
-Create a html page (with the Ad Keentag and the hosted by message) to be the index page for the second set.
-Create a folder for your comic in order to keep things tidy and upload the folder to workspace/webpages. For our purpose, we'll call the comic "example".
-Upload the index file to workspace/webpage/example/index.html (note that you will end up with comicname.comicgenesis.com/example/index.html )
-Create a "blank" page to be your template. This one you can just keep on your computer.
You are now ready to proceed - go to step 2.

If you want the second comic to be set up so new readers start from the beginning:
-As above, create a html page to be your first page.
-Create the folder and upload the first page and folder to the workspace section.
You are now ready to proceed - go to step 2.

Step 2:
When you update the second comic, it will go "live" when you update it. You won't be able to use comic genesis' auto-update feature. Because of this, you can name your comic images in any way that will make things easier for you (such as 1, 2, 3, etc). You can also continue to name them for the dates if you prefer to keep doing it that way.

When you update, you will do it in XXX steps:
  1. Download the current "last" html page.
  2. Copy the Blank page and edit it so that the 'previous' link points to the current "last" html and the 'next' link either points to nothing or back to the index page or w/ever.
  3. Edit the current "last" page so that its 'next' link points to the new file you just created.
  4. Upload both files. What was the current "last" is now the second last and the new one is now the last one.
Repeat indefinitely.

That sounds doable! I shall have to give it a try. Thanks!
