Are you having difficulty logging into SiteAdmin?

Update 30/11: The database has been re-synched. Check and see if you are now able to log in, which you should be able to. If you can
and if you can't, please post and let us know.
End update
I have noticed that there is a sudden rash of people who are having difficulty logging into the SiteAdmin.
There is no known fix for this (yet).
However, I want to gauge how big the problem is. The people experiencing this seem to be across the board with old members, new members, novices and experienced people encountering the same problem with different ISP's and from different countries.
The only common symptom seems to be that the user enters the right name and password into siteadmin but siteadmin responds with "invalid username" then suggests the exact name that was entered.
If you are unable to log into the SiteAdmin then I would ask you to post in this thread. But make sure that you
attempt this first, especially if you have capital letters in your name.
If you
can log in, then please refrain from posting unless you have had this problem and it suddenly started working for you (especially if you did something first that may have enabled you to proceed).
People who
seem to be having this problem (just from a quick scan of the Help Center):
- Saeliah
- Zanzarra
- spirenteh
- kaourika
- BRainey
- Averia
- obeydrx
- WashiChiisai
- spike tailer
- worldunkown
- keyoko
- Martin
- GG_McRipper
- JellyRollSnail
- lgo
- Zeurinu
If you are on this list, can you post here so we know whether or not you were able to get in? Some of these people may have an unrelated problem (such as something imple like entering "bob" instead of "Bob") but there seems to be a whole lot more people who can't log into siteadmin since about the middle of September than there used to be...

I also have the problem.
And I just noticed the old siteadmin doesn't seem to work either. It gives a "write access expired" message when I hit the button to update. Might be a related problem eh?

I am also experiencing this problem.
Tried both the butch server and the main login and both gave "invalid user name" responses

I have never been able to log on... I got the same thing... if i don't update my comic it might get deleated! (I only have 1 comic on there now) I hope we can figure it out soon...
edit:
nonexeston comics seem to have added themselfs to my page? that is odd.
Edit 2:
I just tried and this happened:
"
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host 'forums.comicgenesis.com' (-1) in /home/space/siteadmin/public_html/mysql4.php on line 45
Could not connect to the Master databaseLogin again"
I thought you might know more about it.

I've also had this problem. I'm logged into the forums under the properly capitalized name, and I'm entering the right password, but it still says the username is invalid.

I am having this problem, and I am being mindful of the cases used in my password. I've been trying to log in all day, and when I attempt to log in, I get this MySQL error. It seems to me that there's a coding barf somewhere.
Code: Select all
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host 'forums.comicgenesis.com' (-1) in /home/space/siteadmin/public_html/mysql4.php on line 45

Yup, that's me in the list. =)
I've done everything that I could get my hands on (advises on the help forums, CGwiki, etc.) but nothing worked. Even registered a new forum username (saw it with kaourika's thread) but still nada. I tried it again after I read this and well, I got something new, hehehe...
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host 'forums.comicgenesis.com' (-1) in /home/space/siteadmin/public_html/mysql4.php on line 45
Could not connect to the Master databaseForum Username Saeliah not valid!
You must have a ComicGenesis Forum login (or you entered a bad username or password, it is CASE SENSITIVE.)
Please see below for possible correct spellings:
Saeliah
But I got the username case correct and password too.
I can get in FTP, QuickAdmin, Forum and Wiki. I can also go in the old site admin. Its just the new one that won't let me. =/
I don't really want to restart the comic but I guess that's what I might have to do. How do I do it so that I get the same name? Is it possible to get the old name? Or if its not possible, is it going to be deleted and removed from the Guide Index List?
Too many questions, hehehe...

@ Maker - not sure about the old siteadmin. I'm pretty sure that it's independent to the new siteadmin, they just both access the same database.
@ Doc McDowell - the Butch server is off-line permanently now. You shouldn't be trying to connect to a server anyway, this is for trying to log into the siteadmin. If you are trying to connect via an FTP program, then you should be connecting to ftp.orbis.comicgenesis.com
@ nothingtodo - if you can connect to your comic via ftp, then you should be able to upload a few comics without going through the siteadmin. Put them into the workspace/comics folder and the server will update them. So long as you have three or more images on there, your account won't be deleted.
@ bruisedoranges - there are times when the database can't be accessed due to high loads, but are normally short or during peak periods. Do you get that error consistently or only a few times?
@ Saeliah - the Guide is mainly kept online for nostalgia's sake. Most of the information on there (other than comic info) is no longer relevant (despite the welcome email still telling people to go there first). We are no longer able to alter the information on there ("we" being regular comic authors).
It seems that there is a broad mix of new and old members who are having trouble (not counting the ones that got frustrated and left).
Starting a new account does not seem to fix the problem for those people who can't connect, which says that it's probably a problem on the users' end and not on CG.
It may have something to do with the fact that the new siteadmin uses http authentication.
Can the people who are having trouble post the following information:
- Your operating system.
- Your internet provider
- Your browser (and any others that you may have installed or use)
- Any anti-virus software, net protection software or other software that may block other internet users from accessing your computer
- And just for the hell of it, which company you use for your email (note: not asking for your email address, just which service you use)

Awch... the reason I asked was because I had a co-author who didn't want to do anything with the comic anymore and wants to get the name out. Hmn... is there really no way to change it? Maybe just delete the whole entry?

@ Royal Blue - try and log in from a private system, preferably from someone who has a successful CG account (although the odds of knowing someone like that are quite low). There were two people earlier who where unable to log in to SiteAdmin from a school system but could do it from an independent computer. Some campus' block direct http connections (or something - not sure the proper technical term).
@ Saeliah - If they want their name removed, then you might be able to have either that name removed or the entire entry deleted but you'd need to contact someone who had access to the Guide and editing powers. I don't know who would fall into that category since nobody is "in charge" of it anymore. My advice would be to either forget about it or try pm'ing one of the global mods here on the forum to see who would be able to do that.

I've been getting the error pretty consistently, I have not once been able to log into the SiteAdmin. Even when I log in at hours where you'd think the server wouldn't be as congested (2-5 AM PST), I've been getting that error.
* Your operating system: Windows XP Service Pack 2
* Your internet provider: Comcast
* Your browser: Firefox 2.0.0.9 and Internet Explorer (I tried it on IE as well and it did not work)

Sorry for being ignorant, but what exactly would an independent computer be? Just one that isn't connected to the school network?

@ Royal Blue - sorry for the jargon. I mean a computer that isn't part of a network. So a computer in someone's house connected directly to the modem would be an "independent" computer. So yeah, one that isn't part of your school network.
@ Everyone Else - most people seem to have a fairly similar sort of setup to what I'm using and I'm not seeing any common denominators. I was kinda hoping that everyone had the same ISP or something else simple like that, but there does not seem to be a rhyme or reason as to who can and who can't get in to siteadmin.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about this problem. At the moment, there is no known solution, but the more information that we gather, the more likely it is that we will be able to figure something out...
