File name issues [solved]

Post by TenPercentReal »

Seigest of TPR here,

The comic has multiple updates today so using just the date isn't enough (ex. "20071107.html" ) so to solve this i did as the tagtorial recommended and added a letter to it ("b20071107.html") but this doesn't seem to work. The file appears in my public folder but not in the "d" folder, hence I get the ever annoying 404 error.

any suggestions?

You need to add the letter on the end, not the start.

If you name your files:

20071107a.txt
20071107b.jpg
20071107c.jpg
20071107d.txt

Then on those files will be displayed on the 7th of November with the a file at the top (maybe the title for that day), followed by b and c (the comic images) and d on the bottom (maybe some other text, such as a footnote).

All those files will be displayed by the file 20071107.html which will appear in the d folder, while the files themselves will be in the comics folder (including the text files).

If you are trying to put two separate updates (two images, each on their own page) to go on the same day, then you won't be able to do that using the CG system. You'd need to hand code it and then re-hand code it every time that a full update was run.

If you have a comic that updates every day, the only way to do multiple updates is to have both on the same page. If your comic does not update every day, then you'll need to slide your dates (forward or backwards) to slot in the extra update for a day that you did not have an update for.
