I am just a simple comic artist. The last time I had a website up on these here internetz my friend ran it, meaning that the only experience I have in Ftp consists of "Don't touch that." I'm following the tutorial directions as directly as possible but things still aren't working, mainly because the tutorial directions lack a portionactually explaining how to USE Ftp. I put my comics the 'right' folder but for some reason this site is recognizing them as updateable. This is, of course, before I even begin to get into the other options about actually making my site look better. On top of that my POG is being denied.
This can't be this difficult, can it? I mean, alot of people seem to be doing this and doing it well. Huh, maybe I should just pay one of them to figure it out. -.-
I Need Help. :(

There's usually a bunch of people around here who can help you out, but generally you'll need to ask specific questions. Open ended questions like "how do I make my site look better" will generally only get you links to the CGWiki (which is a good place to start anyway) or told to "google it".
So breaking your post down to some basic questions:
How do I ftp?
You'll need to tell us what software you are using. I used to recommend SmartFTP as it's simple and free, but it appears to have had some compatibility issues with CG lately.
Where do the comic images go?
They go in the comics folder but be aware that there are two folders marked "comics" - one in the public_html side and one in the workspace side. You want to put the comic images into workspace/comics.
I put them (in the right folder) but for some reason this site is recognizing them as updateable...
Que? Can you re-phrase or re-ask the question? From the way that part is written, it seems (to us) that you are complaining that it is working properly. Maybe we are using different meanings for the word "updateable"?
My pog has been denied!
When you upload a pog, it'll automatically say "No" next to it for a while. Until it's accepted. This is not an automatic process as each and every pog needs to be viewed by a human. Generally, it'll be rejected if you didn't follow the instructions (such as making it a jpg instead of a gif or png) and rarely for design issues. Be patient and it'll either be accepted or you will receive a note stating that it was rejected and why.
Will someone do this for me?
There are a bunch of people around who will. Have a look at the top of the help center and you'll see a thread marked "something something Yellow Pages" - that's for people looking for / providing web support.
I can also help you out some, but I only do it for people that are dedicated, not those that are just trying it out and then quit two weeks later.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks. I think I'll take another crack at this, a little less frustrated this time around. The confusing question goes as follows: I have all my comics saved in the date format to the workspace comic folder (I am using SmartFTP, by the way). But when I go here to the update section the only comic is says is available to update is one dated a week ago, which none of the comics in the folder are. To make matters worse, the second scheduled comic DID go through, but isn't scheduled to appear until December first. That isn't the date it was saved for. So, really... I have no idea what's happening.
Thanks for the help though. It's a relief to find a forum group that actually answers questions AND is friendly to boot. Perhaps if I can get past my own incompetence I will be able to stay with you guys a good deal longer than two weeks. Only time will tell though...

Let's see if I have this straight:
You have X number of comics already ready and uploaded to the server (sitting in the workspace/comics folder). Of these, some should already be displaying (date name is before today) and some should not display yet (date name is after today).
Is that right?
I'm not sure if "these comics are available to update" is a new feature that I'm not aware of or if you are thinking of a feature not available on CG. Can you elaborate on this comment?
Generally, comic images sitting in the workspace/comics folder are those that are waiting to be "published" (moved to the index) and once they are, they are moved to the public_html/comics folder (and disappear from the workspace side).
The updater will check your account once every 24 hours (you can change what time in siteadmin) to see if any of the images in the workspace/comics folder are meant to go up that day.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "But when I go here to the update section", specifically, what you mean by "here".
The second comic, that "isn't scheduled to appear until December first", check the name. If it's 2007120X.jpg (where X is a number) then it should definitely not have gone through and should be brought to the attention of the staff.
However, check that it wasn't named 2007110X.jpg by mistake (where X is the day that it showed up.
