FTP malfunctioning [solved]

Post by Haizea »

Hi, small problem ahead

I have no problem logging in and seeing everything, but it won't let me change anything. For example I'd like to replace the old indextemplate.html in the workspace folder with a new one. However whenever I try to either delete the old one or overwrite it I get this

553 Rename/move failure: Permission denied : /workspace/indextemplate.html

550 Could not delete indextemplate.html: Permission denied : /workspace/indextemplate.html

I use FireFTP (don't know if it matters).

my host is haizea.comicgenesis.com
my username and password is correct (otherwise I wouldn't be able to log in) and I really can't understand what the problem is..

The good news is, it's not your fault.

The bad news is that we have no idea how to fix this at the moment, unless you have a brand new account.

I notice that in your forum profile it says that you joined on the 20th. If that's so, you probably have a squeaky clean new comic account as well. If that is the case, then you may need to allow 24 to 48 hours before your account becomes 'fully functional' and you can start editing things as one would expect.

Short answer: wait a day or so and try again. If you still get 553'd, please post again here.

Thanks, okay I'll give it a wait then ^^ From what I can see for now, it simply throws me off whenever I try to do anything, I hope it works out

Ah, I have the exact same problem when I try to replace dailytemplate.html or indextemplate.html. I suppose I should just wait a couple days and try again?

Oh good, it works now! Now I just have to figure out why my images aren't showing up...

Hmmmm, does that time frame also effect the time it takes for updates to show up?

Which time frame?

If you make a change in the workspace area, it won't show up on your site until after it is processed by the server. The server (in theory) only takes a few seconds to process a comic, but since there are so many comics being processed at any given time, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours between you clicking 'update' and the new version showing up on your site.

Changes in the public_html section should show up almost immediately.
