Subdomains instead of domains pointing to Comicgenesis acct?

Post by Sofimi »

I have a question regarding domains pointing to Comicgenesis accounts. You mentioned this in the FAQ:
6. Purchasing a domain?
a)I'll turn the anti-hotlinking off if you have a domain and want it off, but the domain has to either be "pointed to comicgenesis" or you have a subdomain that "is" the comicgenesis comic. (which your nameserver configuration has to have a A entry for the subdomain pointing to our server)
I was wondering if the same thing can be done for subdomains of a different domain. Say, IS.MYCOMICS.COM instead of MYCOMICS.COM. Can that subdomain be used to point to an existing Comicgenesis account?

And by pointing I mean not the redirect type but the way domains can be used for Comicgenesis-hosted comics, only this time they're subdomains.

I'm using DreamHost by the way, if you're curious. I think I have access to setting DNS records---that's where the A entries are set, right? :P

Anyway, that's basically it. I hope I've been clear about my question. And I really hope someone can answer me soon. Thank you very much.

Even if it is possible, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I've been waiting to have my domain parked for over a month and I've been 95% ignored. Y'know, other server issues and all that.

JTorch, thanks for the quick reply. At least I know that's what's going on here. :) I tried to email them as well, but I posted here to be sure. Again, thanks. Am crossing my fingers still.

If you point your domain AT the same IP as the comicgenesis.com server, yes technically it will work. You just have to say "I want my comic to be IS.MYCOMICS.COM only" This REQUIRES that you set the A record to the same IP address as the CG server, otherwise you'll just get 403 errors.

Kisai, thank you! Now my question would be, does doing that (changing the nameservers and DNS/MX records) produce results automatically? What about JTorch's dilemma, then? :D

Just making sure. :P

No

The 'proper' way is to have CG control the domian by pointing the domain at our DNS servers . The way I suggested above would use whatever DNS server you currently use and just point the one subdomain of a domain ("A record"

You can also do both ... bci.stripspace.com NSFW
